Fir some reason my disco TD5 has started to smell of diesel it is not leaking and the fuel cap is on tight and don't know what else it could be can any body help me ?

must be leaking somewhere if you can smell it.
check the fuel lines for moisture, doesnt take much to smell it, mighty just be seeping somewhere

Check the fuel pressure regulator its at the back of the engine drivers side.

+1 mine went recently, thought I had a slight oil leak when it went in for MOT but it was diesel leaking from the FPR, running down the side of the engine collecting ****e on it's way.

You can see it just with the engine cover off but its easier if you take it off and get a torch in there

HTH

Mine stinks standing on the drivers side - the fuel filter is wet with it under the rear wheel arch. I have a new one waiting to go on, but its too darned wet and cold at the mo (and its not dripping onto the road). I'm just hoping its worked loose / seal worn/perished and not all the pipes/gubbins on the top...... A

( or check the regulator at the back of/tucked under the intake manifold on the rh side of the engine - well known for leaking as others say, easy - if fiddly - to replace)

Another thing to check is where the sender unit goes in the tank. mine was really smelly, especially after I'd just filled up, and on cutting a hole in the load area floor (mine's a Defender) it became clear that the locking ring wasn't on properly because the last person had cross threaded it. New locking ring and seal and a tube of fuel proof sealant, and it's now dry and a lot less smelly. Might have to have my fuel pump out again soon, but that's another story.
