hi all, please take it easy on me im new here and my first landy. coming from jap crap to landrovers i cant help but feel my 200tdi 90 is well slow, i gathered not a speed machine but mine really is slow, i watched a 200tdi 110 waltz past me on hill while i was struggling to make 55mph but will make it to 70 on a flat after a mile or so.

i have given it a complete service, i have checked all inter cooler hoses, turbo hose to the fuel pump, i have cleaned the inter cooler out, changed gearbox, transfer box, and diff oils. doesn't use any oil, no black smoke when booting it, not smoke what so ever, idle fines.i have also checked all fuel lines to rule out air being drawn in, turbo is boosting at about 15psi

when revving it to check the hoses was inflating on the pressure side of the turbo, as soon as i let of the throttle it seems like it wants to stall momentary then idles fine. i have read some where on here that there is a pin or something that can get seized in the fuel pump which obviously boosts fuelling for the turbo, not knowing what i am looking for on a fuel pump or what im dealing with as such anyone got a idiots guide as to how free off, or check to see if it is seized, and this wouldn't be anything to do with a diaphragm on the fuel pump :s

thanks

Sounds same as mine...cruises at 55mph..can do 70mph on a VERY good day..normally 65mph tops.

However I have done none of the things you have, so by spring i should be getting 125mph.

well if that's normal then so be it, not really after speed its scary trying to go fast down the biggest hill i can find, however i do love the sound of a v8, just the fuel economy and insurers would love me .

time to move onto fixing the doors then,

thanks
tom

cant u get the same effect with a fat bastard in the seat and trying to shut the door?

its not normal!!!! my 200 with sit at 80 all day long thats on normal def transfer box too. check your waste gate aint sezied or slightly open. take off the exhaust down pipe and then the cast down pipe off the back of the turbo. then clean it and inspect for cracks. also when reving hard check to see if the acuator moves to open the wastgate. you should get a tiny bit of black smoke on full chat. What about an injector flush??? any dribbleing from injectors down the head??

hi there not sure if it helps, but mine didnt run to good, then i put biodiesel in it,now im back on derv it runs great!so maybe need some biodiesel or some stuff to run throw the engine to clean it out, hope it helps:D

as i have been asked to update with what's been done so far, and if im honest not much as my time has been taken up by work and family issues, but so far i still have a slow 200tdi.

it has a standard 1.410 transfer box, and 235/85/r16 Sahara's.something has come to light that i was unaware about but yet to try, the guy who owned it before me i believe maintained it himself, and i wonder if the gearbox has been filled with ep80 or 90 as it whines like bitch and hard to change gears while cold. so tomorrow going to drain and fill with atf deaxtron 11 and see how it goes

Great, thanks for the update.

well starting the thread has brought some potential fixes to light such as checking the waste gate on the turbo it'll be interesting to get to the bottom of it.

Goodluck with it.

Hi Tomk.
My 200tdi also runs slowish but hard to tell correct speed as speedo needle jumps up and down between 45 and 60 and as the steering is a bit vauge, i'm not to bothered, but that aside, mine also whines at 20mph upwards and is hard to find gears when cold. Please post a reply when you change oil and let us know if it makes a difference.

certainly will keep updated on the whole thing, landrover rekomend it should be serviced every 24,000 miles, the last know service with a proper garage was at 157,000 so one would expect tappets need doing as well

well i only had a liter of oil in the box, drained and filled up made a huge difference, managed to drown my old one so rebuilt using a disco block, now i can pull 90mph :)
