Joined the 'new head gasket' club recently and at the same time had new timing belt and a few little useful bits.

My question is this. To carry out all of this work..would the mechanic remove the undertray to make access to the engine easier.

The reason I ask is that I have noticed that mine is attached with cable ties.

I cannot imagine what would happen if they broke at 70mph on the motorway.
 
There is a very good reason why I havent asked him. He will obviously deny it. I am not certain that it didnt have cable ties before but..I dont recall seing them as i have looked underneath the car.

My reason is that If were bolted before then I want it bolted again. I do not want this thing thrust through the underneath of my car on the motorway.
 
yu have a problem then -

if it wasnt fitted with cable ties and he did remove it - and he denies it - wot are yu going to do?

if it was fitted with cable ties before and he says he didnt remove it - what are you going to do?

best to just refit it yoself i reckon........
or ask him :rolleyes:

if yu aint happy with it fitted with cable ties - either remove it - or fit it proper. :brick:
Its nice to have a confident trusting relationship with yo mechanic - aint it?

I recall a thread a while back stating that the under tray added to the strenght/rigidity of the vehicle.

Without wanting to sound rude. If you don't trust the answer from your mechanic....Don't use him. Whats the difference between a lie about the under shield and a lie about whats wrong with your vehicle and it costing you big bucks instead of a couple of quid?
 
All good points...so does anyone have the size and spec of the bolts I need. Any tips on where to get some would be appreciated.

Before I go tearing off up the motorway.

both my freelanders are only held on with the 2-10mm nuts at back 1-each side in middle which i think are 15mm and one each sde at front both 15mm

Did he change the oil?

Rip the bloody thing off and bin it, let the air flow freely. :D
 
Oh come on, you'll be wantin us to come out & fix it next. If you need serious handholding every time, then a Landrover aint the car for you.
