Side exit exhaust or not?

Ok so the plan was to fit some flexi pipe and make me a side exit exhaust this weekend but...........

After faffing about finding the right size flexi pipe, 54mm internal diameter it turns out that although the landy has a 200 TDI in it, it still has the old exhaust off the 2.5 TD engine fitted!

So now the questions are..........

Is that old small bore exhaust going to be strangling my engine?

And

Should I just go ahead and do the side exit with the 52mm pipe that's on there or should I try and find a larger bore down pipe first?

And should I just not bother with the side exit and just fit the proper exhaust?

The TD and 200 TDI exhausts are the same bore size. Earlier engines (2.5D for example) use a smaller diameter pipe - as do the petrols.

Ah so maybe not such a problem then?

Just struck me as odd it having a 2 inch exhaust when ever other (newer) fender seems to have a 2.5 inch pipe

With a diesel engine, especially a turbo diesel, you need the biggest bore possible as they dont like or need any back pressure like a petrol engine does. In fact they run best without an exhaust or manifold but its anti social, tends to melt everything else under the bonnet ;) , gasses the driver, and makes fitting the turbo a tad awkward.

I have just the back box left on the 110 too but thinking of getting rid of it too and maybe fitting a side-exit. The rear quarter panel has old holes in it anyway for different checquer plate so if I don't like it, it'll always be a chance to replace the panel anyway and go back to a normal exhaust.
