I've just installed my brand new remanufactured V8 from V8 developments.

After a little fettling, she fired up today and seems to be back to full health....

Whilst the engine was out, I decided to renew the exhaust pipe, went for Britpart because I've spent enough on her this year already!

Anyway, I have previously fitted Cats 2 U front pipe cats and they don't line up at all with the Britpart exhaust.... I had to push the front pipe up on a jack to get it to connect to the middle pipe, and as soon as I've started her, the rubber hanger has ripped!

Has anyone had this before?

I realise we're in the the realms of pattern parts meeting pattern parts and no original Land Rover bits left anymore, but should I just bend things to make them fit, or should I try something else? I know Britpart are a bit hit and miss, but this is at least 30mm out...

I'm guessing you cd also buy a longer rubber piece.

If you put heat or an induction loop on the exhaust bracket then you may be able to close the gap a bit

That’s probably what I will do, but there are knock on effects to having it lower.

It doesn’t clear the rear axle so well for one!

I think the front cats pipe is the problem. I think it sits too low…. But being hard bolted to the engine it isn’t going to move!

Can you buy flexible exhaust pipe? I haven’t got the means to bend or weld it.

A while back I discovered there's 3 different lengths of the CAT section, and different middle sections to allow for it. Beware mix & match !!

Also had one cat where the width was different to the manifolds. Had to put a ratchet strap round the two downpipes & pull them in to fit.

I know mine is a funny 1998 Model Year and it’s on the cusp of the change, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got the correct bits, but I’ll double check it.

Easier just to go to a custom exhaust place isn’t it!

Is that joint a cone?
If so have you tried to slacken the joint then hook it on the rubber (a new 1 of course ;)) then do up the joint at a slight angle might just give you a bit putting less strain on the rubber.
Put a "tweek" on the top hanger bar you could get 1cm probably?

I had a blue bag rubber fail in quite a short time they dont seem to last well these days, I thought I saw poly 1s somewhere (might have been a dream) dont know if they would last longer.

Most exhausts I fit to current cars normally need a little tweeking on the exhaust mounts as they are always out of spec. It's the least important part of the fabrication process. The main importance is on the tubes and silencers. I've seen this with bosal and the like. 👍

it's kind of cone, you could change the angle a bit, but not enough for this mismatch. I think I'll have to bend the hanger a lot, or even grind it off, and try and weld it back on at a different place maybe.

This may well be the problem. But I can only find 2 middle sections now, roughly speaking GEMS and THOR....and even then Isalnd 4x4 seem to think they're interchangable, and it's just the size of the heatshield that changd. Mine is on the cusp so is probably neither. I did think maybe I could cut the pipe straigh accross to allow me to rotate the bend, and use a slip joint and 2 clamps to join it up again. It's a bit rubbish they don't just fit though!
