Side Exit Exhaust - Again

The point is that there's nae point moving it out of the way of water 'cos it won't go in, and I guess if you're worried out that then you should put a stack on, or somefin'.

Don't get me wrong, I think they look pretty frickin' cool and I might get my new exhaust coming out the side. But is there really any point?

For me, apart from looking cool, the point is, the existing outlet drops down below the rear tyre and is vulnerable to getting battered. Lifting the outlet up to the body panel just gets it out the way. Oh, and it looks cool so bollocks.:D:D

See below, this is what I want to make as a body panel side exit thingumybob

p.s. Can anyone enlighten me on the external diameter of my existing exhaust, just so I don't have to make the effort of measuring it myself?

how long have u had your landrover?
how much offroading have you done?

once you have a lot of offroading under your belt you will understand why things need relocating/improving most people give advice based on experience

Cheers guys.

Been contemplating the exhaust situation to get a little nicer noise from the V8 as it currently has a bog standard system on it and it sounds pretty lame!

Does the stainless lifetime guarentee still stand for 4x4's as they obviously get 100 times the abouse a normal exhaust would get?

I moved mine so I could fit a rear fuel tank.

some people crush the original one on the x member this is pretty rare.

for water reasons? just a myth. makes no difference where you exhaust is if its low down.

mine has been fitted since 08 and not had a problem with the law or the MOT man. I originally had a cherry bomb but quickly got bored of that. The exhaust place made me a custom box and made it really quiet. its still a little thumping at high revs though which is quite nice.

To be fair, he did ask a question!

:fighting2:

Yeah, Wilty untwist yer knickers and save it fer the noobs asking questions aboot slitties, eh?

not all landys are the same if u ask for advice its upto you what you do with that advice what works for one dont work for another

Side exit has the added advantage of letting you monitor engine health in your wing mirror. I can recommend Custom Craft of Elgin for anyone in the North of Scotland.

mine pokes out behind door, home made.

I've made a side exhaust using the original back section, the cost is zero, but you'll need a welder for 2 joints. I could've bought a flexi pipe, but there was no need when a monkey can mig weld like me ;)

It consists of removing the middle box, cutting a section from the back section and curving it up ( using the natural curve of the rear pipe ) and over the chassis, the smaller back box ( once welded onto the new curved pipe ) sits just behind the battery box.

Well, mate of mine is wielding my wee side exit set up for me. Hoping for some advice as follows;

If you see my sketch, the two rings will clamp either side of the body panel. Do you think I need to worry about heat transfer to the body panel?? and if so, any ideas for a heat sink gasket to limit this effect??

Cheers:D

I've never seen a side exit attached to the body via the end cap, the exhaust should be independent to the whole vehicle except the engine, it's why we use rubber holders to hang an exhaust from ;)

it will vibrate like hell i still use rubber mounts on mine just cut and welded last one to fit

Hmmm, I'm not sure it will. Body mount clamped to the body, so it can't vibrate here, specially if using a heat resistent rubber washer. Vibration in the main system can dissipate in the flexi connection to the body clamp, possibly..............

Allthough, this very much remains to be seen:eek:

The fact that standard systems are fully rubber mounted (including the engine) has not escaped my attension.:eek:

what about on articulation? you need the exhaust able to move
