Hello , i have a problem setting the front windows on my rr 4.0 petrol,
i have had to set them before with out any problems , i don't have a sun roof , i can lock and unlock car with remote key fob, followed distructions in hand book still wont set, can the car be running when you set them??? or turn key to position 2 , just had that thought?????? Rob

I've been re-setting my front windows almost daily due to them freezing.
Once I'm at work & they've thawed enough to work, with the engine still running (& heater full-blast) I run them all the way down & all the way up a couple of times & they re-set, never tried without the engine running though.

you should be able to as you need them set to apply the eka code which disables the engine(or re enables it once applied)!!

can you imagine what happened when they discovered that at the design stage!!! lol!!!

I think the trick is to open fully then close fully in one motion but then keep the button pressed when you get it up fully.
At least this is what worked for me when mine were giving me grief last week.

Since this really cold weather has started mine wont set at all and now the drivers window sounds like it wants to keep travelling,so you have to watch and judge its position.Incidentally the sunroof will only tilt in this current weather and i cant set that either (not that i'd want it open at the moment]. So just hope it gets warmer sooner so everything can be reset properly.

Hello , after reading one of your posts this morning , i set about my beloved rr with the intent of setting my windows once again !!!!!!!!
Since the bad weather they have been a real pain, ....... according to the hand book you should be able to set in one continuios motion, which has worked well in the past, since the servier weather they just won't set, but today i just kept repeating the process and hey presto it worked, all windows set,,,, so if you having trouble setting your windows just keep repeating the process until they do set ,,,,thanks to all who responded,,
Rob:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

When setting them are you doing 1 at a time or all together because mine just wont reset and i,m tired of hearing that bloody beep ever time i go to close a window.

just do one window at a time , and keep doing it till it sets thats all i did, i was sitting in traffic at the time , but make sure they go all the way up and all the way down , i started with drivers side front first then passenger side then the rears, had to do it a few times mind, hope that helps... Rob

Sounds like you need a new regulater for your drivers window, i could not set my drivers window and the window kept wanting to travell, you can get them of e bay and its fairly easy to fit

Cheers Cossie David, you was spot on with advice.Took of window regulator and the last few teeth had worn away,so fitted a new one greased everything up and it works prefect now.So set the windows and no more bloody buzzer, cheers mate

as for the actual setting, in all cases the becm watches for the motor to stall, ie for the window or sunroof to reach the end of its travel, for the motor to want to send it further and then to find it physically stalled. so if you have trouble setting the windows, the trick is to keep the button pressed a second or so longer once it reaches the end of its travel before releasing or sending the other way. learned that off this forum and its worked for me!

so in theory if you had a knackered regulator you could physically stop the window before the damaged bit so you could set the code???

after that just stop it before the last time so it thinks its blocked and it will turn the antitrap off and hopefully allow you to wind it all the way up?

might try that on me passenger one i ant got round to fixin!

My old regulator had about 6 teeth worn completely away and use to stop the glass about 20mm short of the top.So regardless of what you do in the same situation it cant lift the glass the rest of the way cos theres no teeth for the motor to use to lift it.I even got the wife to press the switch as i lifted it but it still wouldn't go all the way to the top and thats why i had to fit a new regulator.

yeah but if you put a 30 mm packer in the door frame the window regulator would think it was closed. thus it would say that its set. its only a theory for emergency use if you have a dodgy window and need to get the code in!
