I am hoping to get my td4 serviced later this week am going to have a go my self not done one before are there any particularly tricky jobs I should take my time on? It has done 110000k miles so what will need doing? Have been looking on eBay are any of the service kits on there any good? Am thinking I will do the egr valve blank while I service it too, is it worth doing the BMW crankcase mod?
Thanks.

Basics are engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, crankcase breather filter and turbo vent filter, you could also change gearbox oil, IRD oil, and Diff oil. You should also check disks, pads and shoes. At that mileage the shoes might OK but the springs and clips can corrode badly.
I have to admit I never bother with it but you could also change the pollen filter.

You won't get much better than this kit from AF for the money. AF only sell stuff that they'd use on there own Land Rovers.http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/ki...ilter-underneath-vin-2a355492-on-101762-p.asp

You should change the pollen filter Ali. Doing so not only reduces blower noise and increases air throughput. But the improved air through the heater, reduces the temperature of the speed control resistors. This helps prevent them failing prematurely;)

This ^^^

I used to buy service kits (Britpart) but the fuel filter has a bad reputation so either discard it and get a Mahle one or just buy the items separately.

Edit: Or go with Nodge's post which came in just before mine.

I emailed them and they told me what the spec of the oil was for your info
Good afternoon,
Thank you for your enquiry, so the oil capacity is 6.8 litres and the specification is 10W/40 ACEA A3/B3.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Ian

That's the kit I use. Never had a problem with AF parts quality. I have had missed stuff out of the order on occasion. However a quick call and any missing stuff is on its way the same day.

In there standard service kit you get:
A quality oil filter (Mahle).
7 Ltrs of Fuchs 10w40 semi-synthetic oil.
A quality air filter(Mahle).
A quality crankcase breather (fluffy type)(Mahle).
A pollen filter.
A sump plug.
This is £60 all in.
