Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum, but I was told by a good friend this was the place to come for some help and friendly advice :)

The story goes like this:

Brought myself a soild series 2 about two years ago and it was driving fine, the clutch blew and I took it off the road.... and well.... one thing led to another and a full rebuild had suddenly begun.

two years later and i'm at the stage of putting it all back together, in the course of doing all this I decided to stick in a 3.5 v8 lump.

Anyways I'm after some advice on the exhaust manifolds, as its a seires 2 I'm struggling on space in the engine bay. I dont really want to use the cast manifolds as they are not the best for performance. MY original bulkhead has also been replaced by a retro fitted defender one I have cut the foot wells out to allow for the manifolds ( see pictures )

Any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated, on what would fit or something close that I can make fit. I have currently got hold of a pair of TVR griffith exhausts in the aim to adapt these but I dont think they'll work that well for what i'm trying to do.

Thanks a lot

Ryan

How much of a mirror image of each are those manifolds? I was wondering if they are cut'n'shut-able to move them onto opposite sides.....seems a shame to waste tho lovely pipes :)

There are however, stainless steel 'sports' manifolds avaliable from people such as Rimmer Bros as well.

They where my thoughts, I really do want to use them but in not too sure about the angles I would need to get them out of the engine bay and down to the exhaust.
I have seen the sports exhausts but it would be a gamble as to if they would fit between my chassis rails? anyone seem them used on a series?

Doing the same conversion as well!!

Could you do me a big favor take offa the fanny moulds and take a picture - I've seen the rimmer brothers SS sports exhaust for the 90 and it looks pretty good they hug the block well, so I think that the clearance between the chasis is ok but wouldn't mind seeing your mota without the fanny moulds..

Hi pornstar

yeh I've got loads of pics, hopefully i can get them uploaded later today. the remote oil filter is only there temporarily until the wings are on an i can mount it properly. I did however cut the old engine mounts off and fabricate new ones out of 5mm plate got some pics of that too. the only thing that i had to watch is the clearance of the diff hitting the oil pump housing.

That is fantastic - love it. I was wondering if you could post a few piccies of the bulk head and what mods you had to do to that....

No Worries, I'll have a hunt for them pics later and post them. One thing i Will say about fitting the V8 in a series 2 is that it is really tight, the rad sitting that far back in the engine bay does cause some problems, u'll have to watch out for the water pump pully fouling on the rad. I've done away with the machanical water pump and fitted an electric one, which gives me an extra few inches between the engine and the rad... not only that, but it circulates the cooling system 10 times a minute, so should keep things cool :)

In the pics u'll notice that i've used a defender bulkhead retro fitted to look like a series, modding this was slightly different to what i would do on a series bulkhead,

Really good link i used for info tho.....
