Hi everyone. So I'm trying to buy my first landy series 3. I've been offered a 75 which looks ok but I'm apprehensive about the chassis as there appears to be quite a bit of rust. I'm told it's just surface and not a problem. What does everyone think? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Leaf springs are knackered.
Whatever the chassis looks like on the outside it will be atleast twice as bad on the inside.
Have a look around the area where the front bumper attaches, also where the bulkhead attaches to the chassis and the top corners of the bulkhead.
Can you do mechanical work?
If you can't then you will need to be willing to learn or have a large bank balance.

The looks are not to bad for what I recon is a truck that has had care in the past but has recently been covered in crud a lot. [ note nicely welded in replacement out riggers.]
However as noted by @Anaconda inside the box rails can be very rust prone, specially the bottom plate.
Best to test as a MOT chap does. Use a "toffy hammer" [ small light hammer] to tap all over. Good metal has a ring to it, parts that are very rusty even on the inside will have a dull thunk sound.

Welcome:)
I would say it don't look bad for its age, But;).
You need to tap it and listen, you will soon hear the diff from good metal to bad metal.

But I would say it will need work and some welding (soon), couple of pics I would say would give problems.

As much as it looks pretty good on top, maybe mechanically (new prop) so maybe looked after to some degree.

But....
Is it a good price?
Can you work on it?
Can you weld?
Do you need it as a daily?

A landy can be classed as a hobby and can get more expensive than a golf club membership :)

does not look like a standard 2286cc diesel engine, ideally you should be willing and able to remove bits to get to chassis and clean, inspect repair, what does the bulkhead look like and A-Pillars any signs of repair under that paint

Have a look under that rear mat, see if floor shows signs of corrosion

I saw this, messaged the bloke and was going to put an offer in for buying this. I got put off as it looked like it had had new tyres, seats and a quick spray job to look nice, soley for the purpose of selling. Could be wrong but that's the vibe I got.
