Hey, I'm fitting a Rover 3.9v8 with carbs into my series 3. I will be keeping the lt76 gearbox. Will a 3.9/discovery 1 clutch fit. Is the gear box input spine the same as the 3.9 clutch? And is the clutch it's self to big for the bell housing?

Cheers Riley

There used to be lots of adaptor plates available for this conversion, it was usual to drill the flywheel so as to fit the series clutch unit. Have a look at V8 owners forum for more info.

The Disco/Range Rover pressure plate is too big to fit into the Series 3 bellhousing. You will have to get your flywheel drilled/tapped to accept standard Series 3 9.5'' pressure plate and use the standard clutch disk. Any machine shop can do this for you.
Whose kit are you using for the conversion? You'll need a spigot bush for the Series 3 box, and you will need to cut off a portion of the rear of the crank to make space for the bush.

Here's a pic to give you an rough idea. I have used an angle grinder in the past and it's a simple job.
It's important that the new spigot bush bolts to the flywheel without touching the end of the crank.
