Already informed. The seller wants it returned, which is another 100 GBP or so.
Not economically viable.

May be he can tell me the part nos for field coils. The starter is fine when cold but won't turn or turns slowly when hot. The electrician said need to change the field coils. Other parts seems okay.

Surely the "re-manufactured" one is OK?

Don't know if @MrGorsky has started yet. I think he was going to get someone in Portugal to do it when he was driving through as there are loads of people who do it there for a reasonable price.

Brand new.....Re-Man, no difference.
Re-Man have more attention to detail and as someone stated, perhaps better components are utilised.

All too many corners are cut with new, if you can re-use old motors that have their winding terminations epoxied then it will surely last far longer.

we could go into business, i'll sell them to you, you claim off me and we will go halves, we could do it with some of those specialist toys you buy, i'll claim they are 415v and then send you 240v by 'mistake' :)

I told you never to mention the toys otherwise I'll won't lend them to you again. Clean them before you return them next time please.

A lot of to do about nothing. A genuine new alternator from Land rover STC2227 will cost you £480.93 or to us £577.12 with UK tax. Plus a £80.00 surcharge £96.00 in the UK, refundable when the old unit is returned. A genuine exchange unit STC2227E will cost you £281.33 or £337.48 with UK tax. Plus an exchange surcharge of £150.00 to you, refundable on old unit return or £180.00 to us in the UK. Personally i would say if the alternator you bought from Island was of reasonable quality you got a bargain. Rimmers prices can't be arsed do comparisons.

A guy down the road from me used to work for Lucas, hes retired now (I think hes dead now) but he used to fix anything Lucas (or any other make) in his shed for penny's, starters alternators ect, drop it off pick it up the next day, he was well handy, he used to breed tortoises (just thought I would put that in for some reason.... baby ones are well cute)

If he worked for Lucas then tortoises would seem like greyhounds to him. :D
