I'm thinking of buying a 1997 300Tdi, which is very tidy. It has not been used off road and as a consequence the diff lock lever has seized, what would be involved in curing this problem?

you need to get the centre console out, remove the bit of housing that the "little" gear lever goes in to. Diss-assemble it, free it up and then re-assemble with plenty of copper grease, a couple of hours work

I had this problem with mine, same as above. There is a metal surround that holds a sound insulator in place, you need to drill the rivets out to remove it When i got to the oily bits i just blasted a load of wd40 into it and left it a while, you can give the lever some force to get it back. It's not a hard job but i would use it as a bargaining tool!

my mates was the same, we just sprayed a load of wd40 on it from under the car and kept pulling at it till it was free, all good now
