Afternoon all,

I'm toying with the idea of removing the headlining and finding the bastard leaks this weekend. The water appears to be landing:

Middle rear passenger seats
Front Passenger foot well
down the inside of the windscreen

So there's a few possible areas for inspection. I can see the shiet whose done it before seems to have had a bit of a silicone fetish (from the state of the sunroofs) e and can see from the state of the grab handles he's had the headlining off so I'm expecting to find a ton of it up there.

My question is - Is it worth postponing the job until I've picked up some Sikaflex? or will any old black bathroom sealant do. I've had a good look on the forums and can't see any info on this.

Cheers

Mine has got some sealant on it from screwfix nothing special but done the job. If you have leaks I assume you have saggy headlining as well. If so a good and cheap fix is while the headlining is out rip all the old material off go over it with a wire brush to get all the weird yellow sponge stuff off then paint the headliner with standard house paint. I did it to mine and looks a millions times better than the dirty old material that was up there before.

Thanks for the response so far. Looks like I should be aiming for Sikaflex then.

fergusontom: interesting you mention that but my headlining isn't too bad - it's sagging slightly at the sides but is nothing major it also isn't in any way dirty really - I was thinking of just stapling it back up or something similar?

I have had my sunroofs done and really did waste a lot of money listening to the 'knowlegeable ones'.
After the front one was replaced - was told that would solve the leak - it was just as leaky. They then resealed the outer frame where it sits on the roof - problem solved. What a waste of money buying the new unit.
Then the rear one started to leak so I used sikaflex around that outer seal and roof - info. courtesy of LZ members. That stopped that leak but I still had the 'wet' roof lining which, as it dried outover a period of time (and warm weather) left the grey fabric sagging. I tried to use fabric glue 'injected' between the fabric and the ' cardboard?' former but that was not really succesful as it left a mark so I bought some DISCOVERY 2 1998 TO 2004 ROOF LINING INTERIOR TRIM GREY FASTENERS from eBay. I measured a design over the liner so as to incorporate all the sagging parts and, after using a stiletto to bore a hole, just pressed these little fasteners up. I thought I might have to reduce their length as I didn't know how much space there is between the liner and the roof but they fitted perfectly and the job looks very neat and tidy and there is no way that the liner can sag now.
As you have gathered by now, my mechanical skill is zero and I rely totally on those who do know about things!!!!!!! I did not use that Indy again.

It is essential that you use a good quality sealant otherwise it won't work.

I've done a few with Sikaflex 221 and never had any problems after.
