Discovery td4 2010 inertia switch location

Hi , I'm looking for the inertia switch on my 2010 td4 Discovery all the searches & videos show it on the passenger side firewall in footwell but I've removed all the panels & it isn't there , have also checked under front seats as I was told that's where the td3 had them as mine is an early td4 thought it may have crossed over but still can't see anything , I've also seen a drawing with it attached to the back of the engine bay just in front of the steering wheel but can't see it unless it's well hidden , does anyone know of any other possible locations for it , thanks Jon
 
Hi, afaik(not 100% convinced just 99) the new Td4 does not have a "classic" inertia switch like the older modells, that function is managed by a so called "fuel eject sensor" integrated part of the CJB, at least that's how on the FL2 Td4 is

Hi , thanks for your reply , I've seen a video with a 2011 td4 with a switch in the passenger footwell , was hoping the issue with my car was a reset as I had to brake hard & swerve to miss a van that pulled out , I was nearly home & I had engine system error flash up I turned the car off a hasn't started since , nothing showing on diagnostics & engine cranks but doesn't fire was hoping it was just the fuel cut off that had been activated , would a sensor reset or register as a fault code any ideas ? Thanks
 
If you find an inertia switch resetting it might help but if it's in the CJB as i suspect then maybe a dedicated diagnostic tool is needed... i dont have any experience with this just that no inertia switch appears in any of the new Td4 diagrams as well

I could check some other diagrams but i'm a bit confused how is a "2010 td4 Discovery" as afaik in 2010 only the FL2 or Defender had Td4 engine
 
As far as I'm aware they started making discovery td4 in 2009 it could have either a new 3.0 v6 td4 or the 2.7 v6 mine was built in 2009 registered in 2010 it's 2993cc
 
So forget what i've told you as it's about Td4 which is a 4 cylinder engine which in 2010 was 2.2 fitted to Freelanders, there is no such thing as 6 cyl Td4, seems that your's is a Discovery 4(not Td4) then and if you want real help at least clarify what engine you have
 
Sorry I've only had the car a week , so that's why I'm asking questions & not answering them , I've asked a landrover specialist & it's a sensor reset caused by the sudden braking & change of direction that you need the equipment to reset , so there's no option to manually reset an inertia switch on my Discovery 4 like other models , so if your engine is cranking as normal , not showing any errors on diagnostics , but not firing maybe a sensor reset

indeed if urs is a 3.0 litre it would be the SDV6 , older 2.7 fitted in D3’s and early D4 were known as TDV6

after it happened did the , courtesy lights and hazards come on along with all ur doors unlocking plse

if there is a hard fault ie Non starting but turns over there should be a fault code , either that or the diagnostics that was plugged in isn’t very good

does the message “ smart key not found ” show up, assume u just have a stop start button

lastly is the battery fully charged and been checked with a multimeter , should see a min of 12.6 Vdc with the engine off

Hi no there was no hazards or courtesy lights , & doors all ok the battery light came on at the time of the initial engine system fault & never went off , the battery was a little low but I had been cranking it on push button measured at 12.4v I also tried to start it off another battery at 12.7v & a running truck & would'nt start it 13.7v at battery still just cranked & didn't fire , the diagnostic kit was a mechanic friends & was snap on so decent but not reading any errors , I've been told by local landrover specialists that the sensors are over sensitive & he resets quite a few , thanks for the info on model numbers & the suggestion , it's going in later for a reset so fingers crossed it's just the sensors , I'll let you know 👍

There is no such thing as a Td4 Discovery or a Td3 for that matter. There is a Discovery 4 which is also known as an LR4 in some markets. There was also a Discover 3 or LR3. And there is the Discovery Sport, which is a totally different vehicle.

I suspect searching for Td4 Discovery isn't giving you the info you desire on the basis of it being a non existent model.

Not really a reliable reference page, suspect that site has loads of bad data on it.

Unless it was marketed outside of the UK as Td4 I am not aware of it being called this. The earlier models had Tdi or Td5 on the front wing, the 2007+ Puma models do not have a Td4 badge, which you think they would if they were marketed as such.

The engine is a Ford Duratorq TDCi hence they are known as Tdci's, although they don't have badges for this either.

What is clear, the Td4 engine was BMW based and 2.0 displacement sold in the Freelander 1, which did have the Td4 badging..

Confusingly Land rover did also market the Freelander 2 as a Td4 model that used a 2.2 Ford engine, but not the same engine as used by the Defender.
 
Thanks , just getting my head around all the different models , I wrongly assumed my Discovery 4 as its turbo diesel was a td4 & the Discovery it replaced was a td3 didn't realise the td4 was the engine , sorry for my ignorance , I'm new to Landrover's & it's a second car for dogs & trailer pulling so didn't go into them to deep but after spending several days on forums & youtube I'm learning 👍

My quick Google has shown this for the Disco 4. Maybe a bit late for u by now, that’s if it‘s correct.🤔

“The inertia switch is located behind the trim on the left-hand side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the fascia. A finger access hole in the trim allows the driver to reset the switch.”

Hi thanks for following up but there's defiantly not one there on mine as I've had all the panels off , & landrover have told me Discovery 4's are fitted with various sensors that require a specialist reset . Not a simple as the 3's
