As most of you know i have had many problems with my n reg disco that i brought last december! The gearbox has now gone and i have been quoted £1800.00 for service/repairs, parts and labour. The question is do i get the work done and keep it for another year or buy something else and sell the disco as i don't seem to be having much luck with this disco.

Does anyone need parts???:D :)

If the rest of the car is solid, buy a 2nd hand gearbox and whack it in.
Mechanical parts - injuns, gearboxes etc are worth replacing / repairing but rotten chassis / bodywork often aren't.

Its a N reg, black disco 7 seater DTi. Full service history, 108 000 on the clock.

Let the bidding start!

Ffs Yer Like Vultures, Oss Chops, You Need To Buy A 2nd Hand R380 Gearbox Ans Get Someone To Fit It. Cant Remember Where You Live But There Might Even Be Someone On Here That Would Be Able To Do It For You, If Yer Near Me, I'll Fit It For 50 Quid For Yer ;)

I'll fit it fer £49.99..

I have a complete running 200tdi that only needs a new chassis and a new body.

Super engine and transmission.

reg is H2GAG .... who wants that?

Shi--y world we live in,15yrs ago it would have an exchange box fitted and keep working - no questions,it would be worth too much to scrap. If its not rusty stick a box in it and see if you can get another 10yrs out of it.Then its truely green.
And it does not cost £1800 either.(even with an Ashcroft box)

ive just had me r380 box rebuilt at a cost of £300.00 + £40.00 for x drilled transfer gear, work on the box done through me local Landy Indy. They would have charged £200.00 labour to have taken the box out and refit but i did that meself.

Thank you for the offer Yella, it would cost me more to get it to you! However, I have been offered a LT77 (it might be an LT77s) that has done about 80 000 miles for £150 and a friend to fit it.

The real issue is, the MOT runs out on the 6/12/07, it need the 6000, 12 000 and 36 000 mile service including the cam belt. I have been looking on flee bay and with the milage I reckon that the Beast is worth about £1000 to £1500. I have been quoted £235 for the servicing, £184 for the cam belt and they have not even mentioned the MOT, whick I know it is going to fail. Another question (possibly a silly one!), do you have to have reverse to pass the MOT?
