Salisbury to A frame balljoint bolts

I need to replace the bolts that hold the A frame balljoint to the Salisbury axle. I think they are AEU2508, but don’t show up in stock anywhere, or at least the usual places couldn’t get them for me when I done the rebuild. Anyway, I was advised that they were standard M12, so that’s what I fitted when I done the rebuild, but I’m doubting that now. I have a feeling they are supposed to be an imperial thread. Does anyone have any ideas?
 
Mine weren't metric(1986) when I replaced them 16 odd years ago.

I had a feeling the early ones would be imperial. I’m guessing they changed to metric with the 300TDi, as I don’t think mine were metric. Mine is a 1992 200TDi.

Any ideas what size they were? 1/2 UNF maybe?

Had a quick look on the bay & only found out the following

Just saw you say helicoil,is a Salisbury fulcrum joint different to a normal landrover?

Are you certain there wasn’t a crossover period from metric to imperial? The bolts I fitted were M12, but I can’t remember measuring the ones I removed. I took what I was being told as correct, but now I’m doubting it. If the bolts are certainly M12, without doubt, then 2 of mine have stripped the holes. I can’t see that being the case as I haven’t stripped any bolts/threads on anything with the rest of the rebuild. Maybe it was bad luck.

you can never say never but aeu2508 is a very early number andf ive only ever seen those fitted,by the time an a frame was fitted to a 110 axle all bolts then fittedwere metric, you get imperial on early disco as the axle came from rrc which were built prior 1980

It does seem strange that these would be imperial, when all the other bolts I have seen on the axle are metric. I wonder if they weren’t M12 course (1.75) maybe they were fine (1.5) or extra fine (1.25). I honestly don’t know. I didn’t measure them when I removed them, and now at least 2 of the holes are ****ed.

yes id helicoil them, they are in a casting so helicoil or similar often best to start with

I will pull the axle next week and get a set of helicoils. I did think it was the easiest way of fixing them, but wasn’t certain about the application. Much appreciated.
 
I thought you meant the two bolts clamping the A frame arms to the balljoint carrier. If you mean the 4 bolts holding the taper to the axle casing I haven't got a clue. Mine were multi spline heads and I reused them as they were good.
My original post is therefore a load of cobblers :D.

:DYea the ones holding the balljoint to the axle, not the balljoint to the arms. Thanks for the replies anyway. I think I have decided to just pull the axle, deal with what I find and helicoil it to hopefully resolve the issues.
 
Certainly the balljoint to arms are not metric, just done mine they were UNF

mine is a Salisbury Axle on a 1995 Defender 300tdi.

The 4 mutispline i have no idea mine came out and went back ok as had had to use heat on the two clamp bolts.

But i had a brand new multi side socket and a big bar and they went easy.
