My son was driving his S111 109 yesterday and at one point went to pull off in first but she refused to move with loud knocks from underneath. He managed to pull away in second and drive the short distance to his house. When I tried to drive it it did the same thing forwards and backwards - it would move a few feet before something would lock up. With the top panel off you could see the prop shaft/trans brake juddering as if something inside was jammed. Externally everything seemed fine and it would roll on its wheels easily. Immediate thoughts would be some sort of gearbox failure but anybody got any ideas?
Cheers

Had the same thing a couple of months ago... did all the half shafts out and stuff... twas the gearbox... picked up a second hand one from ebay... £100.00... still have the old one if anyone wants it... never took it to bits to find out what it was ( its a roundtoit )... biggest job was taking the floor/seatbox ect out... get an angle grinder and a bag of new nuts and bolts ! Gearbox is a heavy little tinker so get a strong mate ( or a hoist ) mate was cheaper ( his back will be fine in another week or to ! lol ). Found that the mounts were knackered so might be an idea to get some in ready... they're only a couple of quid.... think clutch plate maybe as well... you wont want to lift the box again for a while !
Good luck !

did it drive ok in 2nd gear !
Try it in low top gear if it drives ok it'll def be gearbox shagged if it don't could still be gearbox prob but more likely back axle shagged !

I'd go with the diff theory, happened a bit on the old sherpa vans.
Does the 'bump' happen every turn of the wheel would you say, thats commensurate with a diff failure.
You might get some idea just by jacking up the back end and turning the rear prop shaft by hand, if the diff is screwed you'll feel something very wrong.
