Hi guys ,

Looking at a 300tdi discovery 99 .

Suspected head gasket white smoke when engine warms up.

From what I've been told white smoke appeared and they immediately stopped car and found no water in reservoir they have told me vehicle did not overheat.

Vehicle got recovered home and filled with water and now smokes white once engine is warmed up.

What do you guys recommend ? Change the head gasket and go from there ?

Looking at getting the disco for the misses .

probably needs a new head

edit: as i now see you are looking for one.. i'd ask them who made the head if it were me

Yep will do .

Checked turbo nice and tight .

So got to be head even though starts , drives and doesn't overheat.

So today was going well started engine strip down to inspect head/gasket then started on head bolts and crack 19mm socket exploded in to 5 pieces , so halfrauds tomorrow to get new one.

Also removed plastic to look at sills . Seems that RUST strikes again . Luckily enough expected this so picking up box metal tomorrow to weld in.

gasket nice and clean not blown
head again looks clean no scratches or cracks no signs of blowing .

Am I barking up the wrong tree thought it would be head gasket .

tbh, your pics are too crappy to tell :)

you sure it's white and not blue or grey?

unburnt fuel grey will hang around a bit

also, apart from a new decent make head gasket, do the p gasket and check the water pump over.

unless your throwing water out of cap gasket wont be blown through , your looking for staining across the fire ring , which it looks like it has though pics arent easy to see

I know pics are crap was running out of light . We take some in morning and repost.

She would start to smoke once warmed up and seemed intermitant was white smoke which dispersed but was like a smoke screen but would come and go . When I bought it owner said it was driving fine then started smoking pulled over to find resvoir dry And did not over heat

such symptoms would only be a stain across fire ring to water way

Get it pressure tested. Bet it's cracked, crack opening with heat expansion and closing up when cool. As me how I know...
