Hi all I’ve got 300tdi defender which is one big money pit. So I’ve got a running fault on first start up runs lumpy and limp for the first 10 minutes and smokes white smoke. After ten minutes clears and goes like a train. Like it’s leaking back. So the dam thing has had a new turbo new head valves valve seals 4 new injectors lift pump x2 new fuel filters new pipes to tank new leak of pipes new timing belt all good brands no britpart crap. There’s no fuel leaks. Copper washers are all there. So any ideas would be appreciated at this point Iam glad I’ve got a Hilux

Might not be a fuel leak, but could still have a small air leak, bosch ve pretty much self bleeds so most small air leaks go unnoticed, but 10 minutes is excessive.

Signs of a lazy pot. White smoke is unburnt fuel. Have you done a compression test?
If you are going to remove the front pulley, do check the pulley and crank keyways, when they wear it is very obvious, knatts cock of wear don't matter.
That air is coming from somewhere. Find out where and your problem is sorted. Sounds like a good test / result to me.
When it's hot and you shut it down, see if you can't hear anything hissing on any of the pipes as it sucks the air in. I know you've replaced a load of stuff but the air isn't just magically spawning into existence - it's getting in somewhere, and it may be on your new stuff.

That is quite good news in that air getting into a diesel engine will upset the combustion process [ white smoke]
The Tdi engines self bleed and will tolerate quite a bit of air getting in, but get enough and your symptoms happen. Any more engine will not start.
As @julianf states above, stop the air and your sorted. Air leaking in at fuel filter when stopped is common enough issue, more so if recent replacement so start your search there.

It starts straight away because the injection pump to injectors is primed with fuel from last run. Issue comes when air further back in the system arrives at injector pump and it has to get rid of it.
Air leak back when stood [like over night] at the fuel filter, lift pump and connections to and from them usual issue.
You may think you would see fuel coming out somewhere but often not the case.

My son's 200tdi leaked through the threads on the pipes going into and out of the lift pump.
Soo had to go to diesel shop for another job explained the problem to the owner he said your glow plugs won’t be working. thought it can’t be that tested the fed sure enough big fuse had blown due to been a 30 not a 60 amp swapped that seems a lot happier still a tiny bit of smoke but no where near as bad on the lumpy ness. I have a scrap disco on the neighbours farm so tempted to test the leak of pipe on that see if that bubbles see if it’s the normal
