now i only use full syth 10-40 or 10 -60..derv or petrol...

but for running in the gm 6.2 diesel that has new rings, bearings etc...what to use?
i dont think full syth will ever run it in...

cheap ****e (semi syth halfords/known brand not tesco)10-40 diesel oil...drop it out at 500miles..?

why do you use fully synthetic as far as i can see its only for long life ,which is pointless considering unless filter system can cope ,properly honed bores and a god general diesel oil should be adequate

i use full syth cos i run 400 hp motors that rev to 7k +

oil is cheap..engine is not..oil is very cheap..but very good.
also why run old grade oil when better latest spec is available next to nothing?

you wanna look inside the toyota lump, its like new..which i like..BUT i dont think will be any good for bedding in...

besides would you still be lighting your house with candles now electricity is available?
have you "felt" full sythn oil?if not try it..its sooo slippery...(compared to mineral oil)

yes its better ,but not if you leave it in longer which is often reason for using it ,especially in an older engine ,most damage ive seen is contamination of oil not lack of lube, though clean synthetic is better than clean mineral ,dirty synthetic isnt

I'd not bother with fully synth, semi would be more than adequate for running in, and I'd suggest probably OK for post running in as well.

We've found Chevron 10W-40 Diesel semi-synthetic works well in our 4.0 Thor V8, we've used it since the new short engine was fitted and it is fine.

How often are you going to run at extremes of the rev-range?

i agree....mine is changed every 1000 miles in gearbox..its a lt85 using engine oil
and 1000-3000 tops in engine, depending upon use..ie town or motorway..the old oil goes in the sills and chassis etc...(not all of it!..no rust atall !)

and peter i dont often run at 7000 rpm..

Go with Deno on them10w40 and when it is summer they like to run on the warm side............ Had one;)

big hunk of iron for a 185hp diesel.

true...but thats without 1-2 bar boost.lpg and methanol..and maybe nos..

looking at 500 min toques and about 250hp...but then again, now have 4.6 supercharged rv8 ready to go....

but they dont...i assume you do change the stat to low temp one..have a PROPER oil cooler and PROPER coolent rad??
i know in standard trim they run hot, but most US stuff does.(emmisions). but this one is ex military..no emmision controls etc..and one feck off rad with twin kenlows...

anyway, will it even be in the engine bay come summer?

160-170f stat was a old 6.2 in a gmc 4x4 no emmission crap. Calif stuff had the worst stuff on it. Had lots of power, torque pull 10 ton like nothing just was not a speed demon. And it would smoke the tyres, power brake style;):D

thought you was going to run engine in using a suitable oil ,considering it isnt modern machined

you are correct, and i will be..but had full syth to hand, and its just for intial start and first hour while i warm it up..then oil and filter change..
