RR with 2.8 Izuzu, which auto box ?

Just got my hands on a 1972 RR which has a 2.8 Izuzu married to the Manual Range rover 4sp box. Would like to swap for an Auto box, does any1 have experience of the conversion, what box to use. Any comments words of wisdom appreciated, i am a series LRO chap really, no experience of RR.
 
James , thanks, i assume the existing setup has a kit to achieve the conversion, and therefore the V8 or Disco Auto box would also mate up to it OK ? . Also sorry, tdi valve block what / why is that needed ,

Yer wasting time with a 2.8 Isuzu engine - it does not make enough torque at low revs to carry an RRC properly.A 200/300TDI with any of the LR boxes is a better bet - and if its a manual use an LT230 transfer box.The Borg chain driven box snatches at low revs/high load situations where the TDI engine wil keep pulling.
 
I've got a 2.8 conv with a v8 auto box in my '73 RR classic and the gearing is terrible, gears are way to long and runs out of torque before changing up , when funds allow will be changing engine and box for a 200tdi lump and gearbox
 
Hummm, not the glowing 'use this and it will be great' that i hoped for but i get the piont on low end power, but i do love the motor, my SII with daihatsu 2.8 does have more low end but the Izuzu feels nicer and both seem to have more grun than the TD5 i drive last night, i guess thats why 200/300 tdi motors have such a good following. Can i ask the guys who had the izuzu on an auto 'how bad was bad' .

they are making that enhanced 2.8 tdi motor in brazil under licence, thats supposed to be pretty good and you can buy em brand new. same as the old lr tdi but bigger with more power and less problems apparently

Made by pacific I think, or some other american company that sounds like that, continental maybe :p
 
i will be breaking my 4 door soon (i thinks,as bought another)

it runs a 3.3 6 pot turbo diesel from nissan,lpg injection,mated to lt77 and lt230 1:1 gearing..33mph per 1000 rpm with 31.5 15's..i get up tp 40mpg!

or it beats 3.9 v8's...(but not 40mpg and beating v8's)

it may well be for sale..
