Hi all,
Acouple of days ago when I switched the ignition on first thing in the morning , there was a continual clicking sound coming from under the passenger seat , which stopped after a while .I started the car and everything was okay.It happened again the next day. Then this afternoon I jumped in and started her up (didn't notice the clicking or not). When I reversed slowly off my drive , I imediately noticed my brakes were not working properly ! I reversed up the cul-de-sac , and then accelerated to see if the abs and brake light would go out. They did not !I pulled back on the drive and checked the brake fluid , all okay. I also noticed that the brake assist pump was not whirring to pressurise as per normal . I have swapped the two black relays and checked the fuses under the passenger seat , and have now ordered a set of relays off ebay. Has anyone else suffered these symptoms ? Could it have been the abs ecu clicking ? I'm hoping it was the relays .Any ideas chaps ?cheers, bob.

Sounds like a relay.

I would replace the relays, check the wiring/fuses and also clean all the earths up. You say the pump didn't operate - either the pump has died (they do that) or the relay has gone.

If the ABS light is staying on there is a fault. Get the blink code from the ABS light and that should tell you where the problem is. For ABS codes either do a search or buy a Haynes manual. I would also suggest you don't drive it until you know what the problem is.

Thanks, relays are on order ,how do i get the blink code ?
p.s. woe is me , i have to go to work in the wifes corsa tomorrow !!

Just checked some other threads and found the blink code info. I will fit the three new relays first and then see what happens.

Changed the relays and it sorta worked , as the relay chattered again, and the pump energised ! I went for a drive and the brakes seemed okay, but the red and abs lights didnt go out ! When i got back , i depressurised the system with the ignition off , and when i switched the ignition back on , the pump didn't energise. I then did the blink test and got a 2-3 , which is hardly mentioned on any of the forums , but on abstroubleshooting.com it says its sensor E (Z2) short circuit or interuption of wire .Has anybody suffered the same ?

Right, all sorted ! Relays were all okay , waste of time buying them , but no matter , only a tenner for the three off ebay. The fault is in the pressure switch , which I deduced from the wiring diagram on the Rave cd. I tapped the body with a hammer , and "hey presto" the pump fired into life ! If the pressure switch isn't calling for pressure then the pump relay doesn't go to earth , and although current flows through the coil in the relay , it wont pull the contacts in until that pressure switch tells it to ! All the blink codes are now cleared (which were all associated with me taking relays out! bar one which was front right sensor wiring code which must have been on there since before i owned the car !) . Now I have to source a new pressure switch. Thanks all.

Now , has anyone got just the pressure switch for sale ! The only ones being offered are complete with the pump ! Surely someone has got a shot pump lying around that I could use the pressure switch off !

ive got a knackered pump, god only knows what the pressure switch is like, after all it did come off my cursed range rover (4months and 10litres of brake fluid later and it still doesn't work) :violin:

Well if you count occasionally being turned over and making a nice big oil stain on the garage floor, then yeah, I use it all the time!!! Ha!

It's beginning to remind me of that Tom hanks film... THE MONEY PIT!!!
