As per the title I want to swap my D1 sunroofed roof for a non sunroofed roof.
How easy / difficult?
I have plenty of welding skills plus the tools.
Are they bolted and welded or just welded.

It would be easier to weld patches / blanks in place of the sunroof panels ...

I plan on "patching" my sunroofs/alpine lights and although i shall be seeking a lot of advice and taking my time I think it'd be a lot easier than a roof swap! :O

would be very nice though to make a full swap.

cut the old roof an inch higher than new roof to give a little flange to slot the new roof over then weld carefully, but like you say, you know what youre doing anyway :D

just a fully welded skin though mate so why not just pull the roof glasses out and bolt/bond two pieces of perspex on?

thus keeping the light, saving the big task and avoiding the leaks?

p.s. vaseline on the seals worked for me, and any dribbles now and again i just deal with!

there int much too em When I scrapped the rotbox a few years ago I cut the roof off at the Door pillars might be eaiest to do that as less welding. As long as ya weldings good shouldn't be a problem.

If you tilt the landy over like Ratty has it'll be easier to get at

I'd thought it would be easer to replace a sunroof seal or even both.

Unfortunately it's an after market sunroof, leaks like buggeryand there is a lot of rust on the inside of the roof to one side of it. I'm not sure what make it is and I'm not a great fan of sunroofs anyway so it's just getting going to get sealed in.

I'm trying to keep my early disco 1 as original as possible and don't want to just rivot a bit of chequer plate on it.
I've tried new seals and it made no difference. Waste of £30 basically. I've even tried siliconing them shut but they still leaked.
My mate just patched a 964 Porsche for a customer to remove the sunroof in that and it took 2 men 3 days to tig and beat into the correct shape so no filler was needed.

I'm going to take the whole assembly out the roof and fit it back in with new sealer next.
I'm fed up with a wet arse!

Try dropping headliner off and check drain pipes, and when you siliconed it was it between glass and runner seals or between the edge of sunroof frame and roof? I cleaned out the hoses and siliconed between roof and sunroof frame and seems to have solved the problem.

Ben, if its an early one (200) then they don't have drains!!

Interestingly, mine makes more condensation on the inside than what manages to leak through!

Ahh 200! Good luck lol, i tryed every thing on my 200 to stop it leaking only solution i found was to park the car upside downImageUploadedByTapatalk1354490780.793143.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1354490792.915529.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1354490801.391213.jpg
