I could really use a full size roofrack on my 110, at the moment I get around 27mpg, how much is that likely to drop with a full size rack?
(worst way for motorway use)

at least 2 or 3 mpg and worse the faster you try to go . If you have somewhere to hang it its worth considering lifting it on and off as you need.

I did think about that, it would have been ok if I could get Molly in the garage. I could have hung 4 ratchet straps from the rafters and stored the rack above head height.
Just driven in losened the bolts and up it would have gone.

Im going to give up posting pics.

My Hannibal rack stays on all the time because its too heavy to get on/off by myself, takes too long, and I've got nowhere else to store it.
As my defender is shaped like a brick I dont suppose the rack makes a lot of difference to mpg although I'll concede it will have some effect.
Also I find it useful to have the rack in place as otherwise you'll be somewhere and it will be at home when it could be most useful. Like the time I passed a building site and they were flogging 6x2 timber in 5.2 meter lengths for £1 each because the H&SE inspector had told them to reduce the flammable material stored on site. Spent £20 and loaded up my rack (overhangs were slightly illegal) to build my decking and pergola.
Went straight back for a second load and they had all been sold so if I'd had to go home and fit the rack I'd have missed out.

got large roof rack on my 110. I get about 24mpg at the moment for general day to day driving to work etc

i have a brownchurch full lenght one on my 110 and seem to get around 30mpg, dont go aove 50mph very often tho, not got the sound proofing done yet

UK built defenders are limited to 75kg. this does not include the weight of the rack.

ROW defenders are 150kg.

Yes a trailer will take more weight, but it will act as an anchor offroad and can be more of a pain in the arse to move around. again, depends what you want to carry and where you want to carry it too ;)
