I've got a 2nd-hand Freelander 1998. It's got roof bars fitted but no key... so can't remove or adjust. I think they're orig Landrover; there's a number inscribed indicating replacement key batch.
Any ideas where to get a replacement?
Ta.

a good locksmith mate.

do a search on here, the keys are made by L&F, otherwise known as lowe & fletcher. the number inscribed on the lock barrel where the key goes in is the key number.

I did a post ages ago, with a chart of all the keys and where to get them from, over a year ago, but should still be about.

good luck

Optimus Prime, many thanks for the info. Will get on to Lowe & Fletcher, hopefully they'll be able to supply a replacement.

btw, i couldn't find the "key chart" in your millions of posts... i've tried the obvious search keywords, like 'key" & "chart" & "lock". is that too logical? maybe should try "custard" or "knee-jerk".

or maybe i'll just read all of your posts.

Optimus Prime,
Many thanks for links.

Called Lowe & Fletcher, gave the no stamped on the lock (049) and they said they'd expect the key to have prefix 70, 18 or AA rather than FH. So now I'm wondering if my roof bars are the same make as yours...

Could I trouble you to get some exact details:
Does your key have "Euro Locks" on one side and the code with prefix ("FH###") on the other (as per the Lowe & Fletcher key chart)?
And does the lock have only 3 numerals stamped on it (like mine) or does it include the prefix "FH"?

My freelander bars are 'Thule' who I think make the genuine LR ones.(key No. N141)
My rangerover ones were LR genuine, and definately made by 'Thule'. They have Ronis locks No. R135. I have some LR genuine ski racks that again I think are 'Thule' and they have key No. 021. Try phoning 'Thule' they might be able to help.

Cheers ianda12.
In the service history stuff I found the receipt from the dealer, who confirmed the bars are made by Thule.
Have ordered new keys £8.
Hope they fit.

my keys do indeed have euro locks on one side, and the prefix FH### on the other, with the same three ### digits on the lock barrel.

god only knows where I got L & F from as the manufacturer. £8 for a new pair of keys isn't too sad.

good luck, glad you've got it sorted !

Optimus Prime: L&F and Euro Locks are the same company group, so you weren't off track.

You must have a different set to mine though. The Landrover spares guy told me that Thule make all the Landrover rack systems.

Goddam replacement key doesn't fit!

Nobody knows nothing. LR say Thule make the locks. Thule say they don't. Then they say they do but say I must have non-LR bars. I point out the receipt from LR with LR bars listed. They don't know why the replacement key doesn't fit. They helpfully suggest it must be the wrong key. Then they say try their sister company, also called Thule, but based in Bristol. Thule based in Bristol say they can't say if they do or do not make the bars, ask LR.
etc.

Well at least the nice lady at Thule not based in Bristol gave me my money back for the non replacement key.

Gonna pick the lock, trash the bars and get a new set.

dewshi,

why don't you post the key number, maybe someone on the forum has the same key. You could then send them a cheque and they could get one cut for you and send it in the post.

or come round and steal your roof bars.

That's an excellent idea.
Key No. 049

Can anyone help?

Pretty please...

took it to specialist car locksmith Buckenham's who figured it out & cut a key. turns out the lock is made by Ronis.

case solved.

Well done
I did say my rangerover ones were LR genuine, and definately made by 'Thule'. They have Ronis locks. So its a bit 'off' that thule couldn't help, as they aren't a 'backstreet company'.
A damn good idea from Optimus Prime though.

You did indeed! It's weird that Thule make the bars but don't put their own locks on them... that's what threw me. There's nothing on the locks saying Ronis, and the code format is the same as Thule's.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend A.Buckenham's (Blackstock Rd, London) for any car lock problems. They were super-helpful.
