I know this has probably been covered before. But yes i have done a search but cannot find the answer I am looking for...

But understanding is that you get rim sizes and 15 - 19 ect.. but then there is 10.50 x 15 now these are deep dish, modular rims. What is this 15" heigh then 10.50 thick is that correct are there other sizes of deep dish modular types??? What is the standard thickness of a rim then?

Also what is the smallest size rims that you can run on a land rover discovery 200tdi as if I had smaller rims it would give the truck a more set and meaty look.

Hopefully you can help and thanks for all the help in advance.

Parlez Anglais?

I think you need to read a glossary!

Wheels are measured in diameter eg 15", width eg 10" and offset eg -50mm.

The figures i have quoted are for my negative offset 15x10 Modulars.

Standard disco wheels are 16x7 with something like 35mm offset I think.

The smallest wheel you will fit to a land rover is 15" sensibly, there may be some custom 14s for trialers etc, but tbh most wouldn't fit over the brakes.

Some land rover wheels were 6" wide iirc, but that's a bit gay :)

Tyre availability and choice depicts wheel choice, most fit 16s due to more standard fitments and better on road manners, 15" is more of an off road choice.

Wheel width is decided by tyre width, what sort of tyre size do you want? Or how often do you spend on the road?

Did any of that make sense?

Oh i see great so the deep dish modulars are 10.50 wide. which gives a 50mm offset which would be the same as putting spacers on standard 16" rims. (or there abouts) It would endable thicker tyres to be put on which would mean having to cut away my arches?

Dont think your quite getting it.

the 10.5 is how wide the wheel is, the offset is not in the figuer you are talking about, ie 15x10.5 means what it says, it 15" diamter and 10.5" wide.

the offset you could find from the seller, myself i dont know where it is printed anywere on the rim, someone will tell you if it is.

But why would you want smaller wheels to make it look squater, normaly people want the ground clearance and go for a larger wheel/tyre match........for off road reasons

Think the OP wants smaller wheels with larger tyres to give a better look but I could be wrong.

if you fit 33x12.5r15 tyres there should be more rubber on show than 305/70r16 and it may balloon a little more to give it that 'meaty' look.

Louiselandrover, depending on what size tyres you fit will affect the work required to stop them rubbing. no amount of offset is going to help bigger tyres to fit in a hole to small for them. Use the guide in previous posts and go from there.

I think we may now be on the same wavelength...:eek::eek: I want to get the most meaty look I can so I figure the widest 15" rims I can get are 12.50 is this correct? Without going custom.

But if I buy 12.50x15 rims this means the tyres will be wider than 12.50, because you can fit a 12.50 tyre on a 9" wide rim so I am told?? So the tyres on 12.50 x 15 rims will be a lot wider correct??:confused::confused:

Confusing ****! :doh::doh::doh:

louise,

the widest 15" you can get off the shelf is 10"

i have seen a set of 12" wide custom 8 spokes on ebay, they were fitted with 12.5" tyres and were far too wide for them, they would need 14 or 14.5" wide tyres to fit properly.

this simply isnt feasible without a 3" suspension and 3" bodylift on a disco, as the only 14.5" tyre youre going to find is a 38" bogger. and a set of those costs more than a small car. a nice small car. with an mot. and a tenner in the ashtray.

anyway.

so youre looking for 15x10 with 33x12.5x15 ?

i did it with a 3" lift and extended arches. wheels from HOME PAGE

I see so mega money the size of tyre isn't a problem as I have a 6" lift at the rear and 4" at the front so reasonably I have to stick at 15" x 10" rims (although I thought it was 12.5 I don't know why that size is stuck in my head??) I am lookimg for a 35" tyre at first might even go to 37" after that. But maximum width of 15" is 10". Thanks M8.

have you bodylifted?

i dont think ive ever seen/heard of a land rover with a 6" spring lift! pics required for this one...

anyway, go for 35x12.5x15 maxxis creepy crawler, cracking tyre at a reasonable price

cheers
