Ride height problem.

While driving the Landy it has appeared to grow?! The ride height has gone up significantly for no reason at all. I have tried running it up and down the road but up she stays. I havn't been off road and i havn't been messing with the ride height button. Can someone please shed some light as she now looks bloody stupid! Many thanks for any help!!!!! She is a 2001 td5!!

Hi there GC, I had to guess but I assume you are talking about the sls rear suspension?

If it has defaulted to the high off-road position you need to rectify that very quickly as there is a real danger of the bags blowing, leaving you stranded.

Ok. It sounds like your suspension is permanently pumped up to it's off-road height for some reason.

The first thing I would be doing is disconnecting the neg lead from the car battery and leaving it off for 10 mins at least. Obviously you need to know your radio code before doing this !!!

What should happen is that, with all doors closed and when you reconnect the battery and start the engine, the car will go back to normal ride height, so try that first.

Cheers Dave , i will try that now. I'm not bothered about the radio as its not factory fitted! I'm in a bit of a panic though as the missus drives it in the day with the little uns!! Thanks for the advice i'll let you know how i go on!!
 
Re-connected and started with doors shut, no change i'm afraid! I have disconnected the battery again and will leave it overnight and try again in the morning! After that i just dont know!!
 
Ok, So the bags have blown overnight. So what now, do i change the bags and risk them blowing straight up to full height again? Or how do i find out what caused this in the first place? Oh Yeah, wheres the best place to buy suspension parts?
 
Hi, u can purchase Dunlop bags from paddocks and sensors aswell just ask for genuine ones....replace them all with battery disconnected...to make certain that everything will be ok plug in a tester to scan the slabs ecu and eventually recalibrate the height sensors if the back will go higher than normal without ORM activated .....to avoid another explosion.
 
From bad to worse!! So i bought a pair of bags and a pair of sensors, just in case. So after jacking the vehicle up not only are both sensors damaged ( which doesnt matter as i have new ones) but as the bag blew it also managed to snap the airline feeding it and both retaining clips to the bag seem to have disapeared!! Oh and it has damaged the brake pipe to the Offside wheel which is now leaking. So the clips and brake pipe i can deal with, what i'm stuck with is the problem of where to purchase a new air line, or can a new male connector be fitted to the old one????? Any Ideas???????????

If the pipe broke at the airspring end you're in luck as you need to cut the pipes in order to install the new airsprings with push-fit airline connectors.

Overall the sls system is very simple and straightforward. Fit the new components and you will almost certainly find all will be well.

before you start the engine (after fitting the new bags etc) I would open the compressor box under the drivers side door, and have a 10mm spanner handy. If the bags overinflate you can release some pressure by loosening the 2 compression fittings on the valve block, this at least should save you from destroying 2 new bags.
 
Many thanks for the advice. As regards the brake pipe, would it be advisable just to crimp it and crawl to the garage?? I know its not the best idea but i cant think what else to do.
