LZ for advice?
Boring.

Fuses (under the steering wheel) is probably the easiest (first?) thing.

Bulb - but that'll take a screw driver I believe.

Reverse switch - will need to get oily probably putting a multimeter across the contacts - or maybe across the relevant fuse to earth?

The Rave workshop manual will show a wiring diagram for the bits involved and say which fuse the light is on. Info on downloading a copy here....

That's correct, all I'm really concerned about is I have no reversing lights.

The reverse lights are controlled by the TCM (gearbox ECU). The TCM selects the gear needed based on which switch has been triggered. The cable on the bottom of the gear selector moves the switch on gearbox via a lever. So if the cable isn't adjusted correctly, the TCM doesn't know which gear to select, hence the strange display. The TCM is also responsible for activating the reverse lights, so something is amiss.
