Folks,
I'm going to embark on replacing the rubber strips on the bottom of the four doors.
I take it that I drill up through the existing rivets and simply rivet the new ones in place.
What of the old rivets? Do I remove the door cards to get the bits out? How easy is removing the door cards?
Advice would be useful.
Regards,
Rowly

I've never changed the bottom door rubbers on a defender but to be honest I wouldn't bother removing the door cards to get the old bits of rivetts unless they are rattling about and driving you nuts. The door card removal is easy enough but there is a high likelyhood that you will break the plastic clips that hold the card to the door and also the surround for the interior lock button. Neither of these parts are expensive but you may find that it's just more grief than it's worth.

yup i removed the door card from my 90 yesterday as my pass door wont open from the outside, broke the door lock surround but the clips for the card are still intact. anyone know where i can get the door lock mech from? as i can only open from the inside as the exterier button is not connected to anything there seems to be something missing from the whole setup

Look inside the door at the back of the lock. When you push the button in the plastic dowel sticking out of the back of the button pushes on a bar. There should be a self tapper on the end of the dowel. It could be this has dropped off or it could be the bar that it pushes has broken. If it's the screw missing then just put another one in the hole. This is bloody frustrating to do without taking the handle off. It took me about 15 mins and about 20 attempts to do it.

If the bar is missing then a complete handle will be needed. They are about £10 on ebay.

i'll get on ebay now, i can see that on the back of the handlewhen i predd it there is a metal bar that pushes on on a hinge, there is nothing attached to this but i can see above there is a shorter bar that is held into the mech via a rotating bolt thingy, so there is a piece missing from the middle of the 2, might remove the drivers side to see if it's just me being daft before spending money, oh one more thing i can open my rear door lock with anything flat, is this normal?

see the bit thats on the handle with the red piece of plastic, seems to have snapped off, so looks like a new handle, good to know it's an easy fix, thanks for that
