hi Guys, new to the forum and joined as I’m currently looking at purchasing a 2012 FL2.
The dealer (not main) only has one key so been doing some research in to the cost of replacement. First port of call is my local LR dealership.

£155 for key fob
£99 for coding
£50 for new key cut
£150 for new module if needed.

Slightly eye watering to say the least and a shock. Is this correct or is this just usual main dealership shenanigans? Do I have any other options?

Thanks for any help.

Tell the dealer you will only buy it if they provide 2 sets of working keys. At no extra cost. Do they know its not the only 2012 FL2 for sale?

Appreciate that, but I’ve been looking for a while to find a decent one and this one ticks all the boxes, it’s in great condition, mileage and price. It would be easier to find a replacement key somewhere than continue trawling for another vehicle. Although if it’s going to cost £500 I won’t bother.

Are there any independent specialists that could help or is it literally a job only for the main stealers?

I got one for a Range Rover L322 from my local independent for half the price of a main stealer, I can ask them if you're not too far away. Roughly where are you in the UK ?

Thanks, I’m in Chesterfield Derbyshire? I have found a place in Notts called 3DAutoKeys, wondered if anyone knew if they were legit?

Blimey they do know how to charge

Think that’s also a great benefit having a diagnostic reader with these modern landies

Bought a new key off ebay for my D3 , key cut at local locksmith and then programmed it myself for a total cost of £60

A bit far from manchester. Good luck with 3DAutokeys, don't know anything about them but if it works that's all that counts.

So 3DAutoKeys want £270  and potentially more for the module if the softwares been updated as they still need to go through LR. It’s the keyless type that you don’t need to insert in the dash. Shocking cost for what should be a simple thing, shame on LR. So regrettably, I think i’ll give the car a miss.

You shouldn't be paying for the seller's incompetence, in not checking both keys were available with the vehicle they bought to sell on.
Get them to pay for the replacement key, and if they refuse, walk away. The market is stuffed full of late second hand FL2s.

It's not just LR that charge a fortune for replacement keys, Honda are as bad if not worse. When I bought my k series freelander it only had one key which was a bit annoying but it's not the end of the world, you just have to take more care of it. Remember though, a car with only one key will attract less buyers when you co e to sell it on.
