Hi,

Just signed up as a member on here so "hello everyone". Just got myself a landy again after a few years of being without and sods law just as i do the best 4x4 tracks right on my doorstep have shut down.

I know theres been some other posts etc. but i cant find em and thought i would start fresh.

The reason for this is i need help, and forgive me if im barking up the wrong tree, but is there anyone out there trying to keep Langdale Quest open.........

I have been making some phone calls today with the possibility of trying to continue the site in some way shape or form.

Is there any chance of it opening again?
Should i try to organise something to help it reopen?
(sorry if someone else is already on with this but so far i have met no one round my area and im in Scarborough!)
Would there be the possibility of a non profitable group running the site?

I dunno, but i would really like to do anything just to get this site open again...

Any input, views, comments will be welcomed!!

Cheers guys,

Joe

Yeh thats true, but as far as i can work out... the forestry commission have no problem with the land being used. OR DO THEY???
Cheers,
Joe

The site closed because the previous owner could not make a profit from the site. What do you think you can do differently that would return a profit. Bearing in mind that it isn't just a case of parking a caravan in a carpark and taking money off people.

There are various costs involved that have to be met.
Rental of FC land
Public Liability Insurance
Business Rates.
Staff Salaries
Taxes & VAT
Purchase of capital equipment Unimog, JCB, Tractor etc to recover stuck customers.
Servicing costs for above equipment.

If you decide to offer 4x4 & quad hire as was done previously there will also be the following costs
Purchase of 4x4s & quads
Purchase of safety equipment
Workshop rental and secure storage compound for vehicles.
Tools and service items & spares for 4x4s and quads.
extra staff salaries for mechanics etc
increased insurance costs for above workshop, equipment and vehicles

Have you done a business plan or even done a rough guesstimate as to likely costs?

As far as FC are concerned. I'm sure they would allow you to set up in business offering a similar service. But If I was on their Management Committee I would want cast iron guarantees and a secure capital payment or bond in place to ensure that you didn't do a runner when it all went tits up as well.

They are currently, in conjunction with the Police, keeping a close eye on the area and are actively prosecuting anyone found to be driving illegally or anyone having any vehicle defects such as obscured lights or numberplates etc while on the Green lanes that crisscross the area.

There are approximately 100 greenlanes ORPA's or UCRs crisscrossing Langdale, & Dalby forest and adjoining areas owned by the FC in Nth Yorkshire. The quest used many of these lanes but alsio had access to the firebreaks and logging roads that are closed to the general public. I had a rather heated arguement with 2 members of the Langdale quest when they tried to prevent me from driving the lanes in Langdale Forest. That basically ended with me getting an axe out of the disco and telling them to keep the fook out of my way if they knew what was good for them.

Yep I showed em my map and explained very clearly and politely that they had no jurisdiction over public rights of way and they wouldn't listen. When one of em made a sarky comment I told him to go fook himself, and his reply was "if you don't fook off i'm gonna break your arms and Then lets see you drive that piece of ****" However he soon changed his tune when faced with a very sharp erstwing carpenters axe. When verbal diplomacy fails, I'm a great believer in gunboat diplomacy..

well thats typical lazy english innnit??? "why bother if its an arse its not worth doing" - its that kind of attitude that got this country in the state it's in!!!

but getting back to the point i was aware of the costings involved etc.
what im not aware of is the amount the foresty commission charge, and the maintainence to the land they would require.

guess ive come to the wrong place if i was looking for people to help out with this.....

But you don't want people to help out do you. What you're looking for is Business partners or possibly Investors to fund your scheme. or employees This is a landrover forum not the Dragons den  Or did you think we'd all just volunteer to work for you for nothing?? If you want to know how much the FC want as rental of the site and details of what sort of land management plan they would require. Common sense dictates that you contact the FC and ask them. But I hope you've got somewhere in the region of £100k in the bank to finance it. Because I wouldn't have thought that a bank would lend you money to run a scheme that has already folded because it was financially unviable. You still haven't explained why you think you can make a success of the site when the previous owner couldn't. No one has said they wouldn't help. But you've already insulted the entire forum because you didn't get the response you hoped for. I only hope your management and business skills and manners are better than those you have shown on here.
