Removing heater for power

pulled the heart out of my Landrover yesterday ready to pull one out of disco now the guy with me pulling engine out suggested to remove heater or something to do with it for more power and mpg all sounds good to me but will it do anything though and how will it affect it when it overheats

If you are worried about power or MPG on an old landy , then you should be getting another manufacturers vehicle.

I think it will make naff all difference in the real world.

Exactly what I told him not that I’m reall bothered about the heater but a little bit of extra power even if very small would be great although the engine I’m sticking in is the most powerful td5 I’ve driven except my black td5 which has been tuned

Will not make any noticeable difference to the power output.

I can't find any logic in this

he maybe referring to an EGR delete if so the cooler can say in place as long its blanked off with a plate

if he is referring to the fuel cooler you need to leave this in as hot fuel isn't good check the thermostat inside the cooler

the viscouse fan does rob power but only if when locked in

if your looking for some extra power ..try adding in some LPG ..and have fun

If it's supposedly hot air, then perhaps your thermostat is stuck open or whatever TD5s use?

do you mean the hot exhaust gas air ? without confusing people any more than you already have ..can you please describe the location of the heater /cooler ?

I've never heard of removing a heater to gain power. There is no connection between the two. Larger intercooler, larger turbo yes.

the car heater uses waste heat whether you have one or not cant effect the engine

some use a different terminology when it comes to heaters / coolers the correct term is heat exchanger ..if its the heat exchanger that cools down the EGR gasses then yes he is correct ... the EGR system is only in place for emission controls only and certainly not there to protect the engine either .. the cooler can still be in place as long as there is a blanking plate between the exhaust manifold and cooler....... location of cooler is normally in front of the engine direct line of incoming air from the fan so they can squeeze as much inert gas as possible knowing its going to be cooled by liquid and air.. also bearing in mind there is allot of stuff from the engine and engine bay area that controls the EGR that can also be removed

if he points out the fuel cooler / heat exchanger ....then no..... located off side right side of the engine
he points out the oil cooler plate /heat exchanger..... then no...... located near side left side of the engine

I highly doubt that he referring to the heater inside the cab like most think on here .... I think its just a bad case of communication and terminology specially the title of thread doesn't help

ever heard of power to weight ratio
removing the in cab heater means less weight .... I mean how many V8 super cars have climate control
