Reg' Document

I have just bought a Series 2a, the seller believes the engine was swapped from Petrol to Diesel and is believed to be an early 2.25 of Landrover origin.
It has been a diesel since at least 2005 but still registered as petrol. Will I encounter any issues if I change with DVLA ? And what do I tell insurance ?

I changed an engine number recently and had no issues.

I just got the friendly garage to write me a letter(on letterhead paper) to say the engine number in the car was xxxx but had them note the reg and vin in the same letter.
Then I wrote a cover letter to say that the car had this engine when I got it. No issue V5 changed.
Mine was done in 2001 ( not a series)

I wasn’t changing fuel type but don’t think it should make a difference.

I swapped a petrol for a diesel (2.25 petrol to 2.5n/a/diesel ) and just filled in the v5 and sent it off, no problems at all. Just tell your insurance it shouldn't make any difference at all but you must tell them cos if you claim and the fuels wrong they'll question it.

No because the engine is the same basic lump as stipulated in the regs.
Engines are not regarded as particularly important and the 1960 2 1/4 petrol is not that much different from a 1984 2.5n/a diesel.

Thanks all, this is what I was hoping for.
It should not matter to Historical status as engine I think is only one point but I am pretty sure it is over twenty five anyway !

Engine changes on classic vehicles no longer need an engineers or garage report. So informing DVLA of an engine change is not a problem.
