After my shoping trip last night when i came back to my car to find another black p38 parked next to mine ive realized how sh#t my paint work is granted this was a few years younger than mine but the paint looked like new
When i bought the car (about 6 months ago)the paint was realy dull and i t-cut it and polished it up with colour magic and it looked 100% better but now in comparison it still looks dull
Its made me quite depressed lol
Anyone got any recomendations?

Some on here have multiple organisms over a bottle of Auto Glym polish and looking at some of the photo's, they have a point.
However, with me being an old fart and being unable to afford to run a P38 and buy Viagra, I use Turtle Wax solid and get rid of my pent up energies that way. I have found that the shine lasts through quite a good few washes and my wrist gets some excercise at the same time:eek:....not that the P38 goes out of the garage much.

Autoglym radiant wax or there was talk of boat wax / plane wax

Detailing is an art, and takes a lot of time and some skill, you have to have a good base, and then lay over it many layers of (I use Cabana Wax) for the bast results, and then keep on top of it

I swear by Mer polish - the cumulative effect means it gets a little bit better each time, rather than waxing where you have to get the surface absolutely prepared before applying the first coat of wax.

I reckon I probably give my main car a proper polish 4 or 5 times per year (I drive around 2,000 - 3,000 miles per month) and this keeps it looking fairly pristine, even with 90,000 miles on the clock. The rest of the time, I give it a quick wash every weekend, with a couple of capfuls of Mer polish in the bucket - then buff it down with a microfibre cloth.

My Range Rover only really gets used these days when it snows, or I need to collect something bulky - so once or twice a year keeps it looking good.

I clocked up just over 245,000 miles in my last car, and even after that mileage people were still asking what I used to keep the paintwork in such good condition.

Agreed with recommendations of auto glym and also meguairs.

If you haven't used it before then have a go with a clay bar (meguiar's quick clay is good), it takes a serious amount of time to do the whole car, but really makes a difference! I use it a couple of times a year to get out any road dirt, tar etc stuck deep into the paint. Otherwise just wash each week and wax every now and again.

well then i suppose tweezing is out of the question? :D

gfromleeds sorry that was me. saw this dull p38 at the supermarket the other day and decided to park mine right next to it just to show the fooker up! ;)

the best way to revive old paint is to use a clay bar. picks up all kinds of ****e that gets embedded in the paint. follow the instructions religiously and you will be surprised. follow that with a thin cutting liquid (not paste) and borrow somebody's orbital polisher if you don't have one as you want to get the swirls out instead of making new ones. then a polish of your choice and finally a sealant. harder the sealant wax the better the gloss and the protection.

Last month Practical Classics did a test on polish. How easy to use,how smooth, resistant to finger marks and shine. Forgot what won - never heard it - but second was Auto Glym dark paint polish. The one that surprised me was how low Mer was in the ratings.

I use Auto Glym but I "Clay" the paint work first

meguiars is a very good vehicle wax,it out performs most

Mer was always good in the past but I think they have changed the 'recipe' in the past few year.
Now use Autoglym after a turtle wax wash and if yours is a dark colour like mine get the Ultra Deep Shine polish, makes a hell of a difference. I have been tempted with the clay detailing kit but know in reality I am far too lazy to get to it.

Be wary of the difference between polish and wax. Polish is probably what you want after you've done a clay bar wash and then put on the wax afterwards.
