Just to clarify if you look very closely the seal is perishing and turning to a white powder. It looks to me like the seal is part of the plastic???????

Hi thanks for the link but it's none of them. I am sure the seal is part of the plastic that runs horizontally across the top of the rear window glass. The seal sits on the outer side of the glass and appears to push the glass against the inner rubber door seal.

are you talking about the plastic with the rubber seal inside that runs horizontal across the top where the rear glass window locates into when it closes cos im having the same problems with mine is corroding and turning in to white powder ive searched loads of places without much luck so far but will keep looking

after some investigation I figured out that the outer plastic trim at the top where the window locates clips of from the outside to reveal a metal strip which is screwed to the rear of the hard top with 5 torx screws and it is also sealed so unless you have the complete metal strip with the rubber seal in it it don't look like its a replaceable part unless you can buy the whole thing complete
will make further investigations
also does anyone know if you can buy the clips that hold the removable hard top in place I got a broken 1

The door seal is one complete part - and it's really tricky to fit properly. It needs body panel sealant along the top and down the sides where the window sits. If you mess it up, your car will leak like a sieve.

The plastic trim pieces are called finishers. They're readily available and not that expensive from a dealer. Make sure you buy new trim clips as well.

I have seen the inner rubber door seal for sale but cat find that too outer piece that seems to push the window against the one piece rubber seal. Are u sure that is part of the same seal????

its only the top rubber inside the trim that has started to perish plastic trim on outside remove the trim and there is a metal stip with the rubber seal already inside it its sealed to the hardtop with body sealant I think like you say look tricky to fit tho have to get it in just the right place when fitting a new 1 or the window wont locate properly

thanks irishrover found it the part has been seperseeded with part number DBU500010available on britpart website £43.44+vat will have a look around see if I can find anymore if not will order 1 from britpat cheers

Dnt forget new clips for the trim and the side trims as those clips will break when removing for access to the top trim

:behindsofa:
I agree...the clips come with new vertical trims but are available separately.
I remember seeing a recall somewhere for rectifying water ingress past the plastic inserts (Rawlplugs for want of a better description) which the securing screws for the top horizontal mount, which the outer finisher clips on to.
Can't remember whether the recall was to replace the plastic inserts with a modified item or whether it was for the application of sealer on the underside of the base mounting. :)
