Hi Guys,

Had a bit of trouble getting the rear LHS driveshaft out of the rear diff, it eventually came out, i leveraged on the inner CV joint. The rear RHS one came out a lot easier. I notice a small ring present on both rear inner CV joints, present next to the cup. I damaged this ring on LHS driveshaft and then tried to straighten it out, but in the process, it flew right off. Does anyone know what it’s purpose us? I’ve tried to take a photo of both rear inner cv joints sitting side by side, I’m pointing to this mystery ring on the RHS inner cv joint, the left one is missing. Does anyone know, is the purpose of that metal ring to contact the rear diff seal and stop leaks? Etc?

The shield is to protect the outer lip of the oil seal (it's a labyrinth seal) from impacts by debris when off road.
