Messing about today with the car, rear arches bit crunchy in places.....can see there are patches in there...should I just continue with the patchwork??

Replace them it's not too hard.

Otherwise you will have to keep patching them, as the rot will spread especially if its been patched over.

.

had a quick look on there, can't seem to see the rear outer wheel arch repair parts, they have the front ones though
I'm after the bits above the wheels inside if that makes sense?

If you mean outer rear arches they are available all over the place but prices vary. As far as I am aware you can't buy new replacement inner rear arches. If the inner has gone I'm afraid you'll be needing to get busy with the angle grinder and then fabricate repair sections, in the alternative you could find a scrapper and cut out the whole inner arch if it is any good.

suppose get some aluminium sheet in there?

Not a good idea to mix steel and ali you'll get corrosion unless you separate them.

I'm not clear which part of the rear arch do need to repair/replace? The outer arch is easy but be aware you'll probably find more rot where the outer is attached to the bottom of the C post and then inside you'll likely find corrosion where the inner arch joins the C post , boot floor and side panel.

If the hole in the arch is by the seat belt mount then that is not too bad at all, a repair section is available for that - do a search for "easy on panels" HTH

Here's a couple of pics of the arch repair I did on my RRC, as you can see I had to cut out the whole arch then weld in new metal and then weld the whole thing back in.
