Rear shocks on a p38

Hiya,

Just been fiddling with the rear shocks (swapping for new) and I noticed that there are two holes that the top of the rear shock can be bolted through (through the chassis) it looks like you can choose. One hole is about half an inch lower than the one its currently in now...

has anyone notice these before? If so what is the reason for them?

Good idea to put the new shocks in the same place the old ones came out of. Who knows what the other holes are for? Could allow enough movement to knacker the sensors if it ever goes to extended height.
 
I just saw it and thought "what the hells that for" unless it would make the ride harsher due to the shock in effect being shorter?
