Hi folks!

My five door Freelander 1 has developed a fault with the rear door (at least, I think that's where the problem lies). The car seems to think the door is open all the time even when it's quite obviously shut! Does anyone know how the car determines the state of the rear door? Is there a switch somewhere in the door that isn't being activated when the door's closed?

The door operates perfectly. The glass drops a bit when you grasp the handle and you can open it. When you close it the glass shoves itself back into the recess. All the lights are working. Wiper works fine.

Any ideas..?

Thanks.

If I remember right the window will not go back up if the boot door switch isn't working also the wiper won't work so you need to look else were for the fault, maybe check the bonnet switch first.
BTW the boot door switch is in the latch mechanism.

Cheers! I'll try the bonnet switch and see what happens.

I don't know if it's related bit the alarm has now started going off at random intervals.

My neighbours love me...

I think I've fixed it!
The metal loop that's fixed to the door frame had some pretty bad looking wear marks in it.
I took it off, turned it round and re-attached it. Now the door shuts and the light goes out. Just like a fridge. ;)
As for the alarm we'll have to wait and see but so far so good.
Cheers!

Keep us updated on the alarm, I have had a problem with it and I have just about got to the bottom of it and want to do a thread about it when I am done

Trying to visualise the 'metal loop fixed to the door frame'. Could you explain or post a pic please?

Here's the fellow :-
