Rear Door Lock Problem

Hi. I have a 2011 Discovery 4 and the rear door won't unlock. Ive noticed there's a plastic cover near the latch and wondered if theres a key hole behind it to unlock the door manually? Or is there any other means of unlocking the door without to much trouble? Tia Mike

hi

have u tried programming ur remote to open the tailgate , or having some open the tailgate whilst ur pressing the lock/ u lock buttons on the dashboard

Alas the actuators for both the upper and lower tailgate are in the lower tailgate , u can get the tailgate trim off whilst closed but not easy

plus when u press the tailgate release handle can u hear the actuator itself

Are you able to hear the lock actuator working inside or outside the vehicle.
Not being familiar with disco but if like most Landrover design department. The door card will need removing.

Beat me to it, lol

alas both the lower and upper actuators are in the lower tailgate , can be the handle itself , think the Ford Focus uses the same one

Never forget my rear side door failed whilst having its Mot and failed , managed to get it open using the dashboard buttons

plus can change the locking sequence via the remote , by either just having the drivers door open or all of them

Must admit Landrover, do seem to have knack of making life difficult for the average headscratcher.

that’s as always a fantastic drawing mate , indeed, think I found one of the nightmares was replacing the air inlet tube that goes onto the turbo, Jesus what a lot of hassle along with stripping it knuckles of skin ,

Some of the Land Rover techs who design some of the components need taking outside and bloody shooting , lol

True there are areas only a computer AI design inaccessible screws and bolts.

This is precisely the sort of thing that would stop me owning any LR Disco after the 2.

me brave never , gluten for punishment maybe, lol

alas the D3 has had its challenging moments that’s for sure, but ride quality is fantastic and haven’t had a motor like it being so comfortable , quiet and very stable at motorway speeds

if I had the money would get a discovery 5 with the straight 6 petrol P360 engine , alas though think it’s come with a 48v motor , would certainly get a full warranty for it , the likes of the discovery sport and RRS really don’t interest me

have also looked in the past at the BMW X5 etc but keep coming back to land rovers , think like many of us had landies since around 1986

My first one was bought purely to pull a heavy trailer and for 7 seats as we thought we'd be running a B&B and doing wine tours. Neither of those happened but the trailer sure did! so owned our first D1 since about 2003.
Loved it so much and it was SOOOOO reliable have bought two more. (The TD5 purely for medical reasons as I couldn't drive for a while so Wifey had to and she can only drive an auto. ) They cost peanuts back then. My D1 V8 with full lpg kit only cost £1250. I have a BMW key ring worth that! (That I acquired accidentally when buying an old beemer). the TD5 cost less than £3k.
I think by hanging onto them they will eventually turn a profit as the prices seem to be rising, finally!
It is true the ride in more modern ones is better and with a dodgy back like yours i am sure that is a good thing.:):):)

wow, think that’s one of the best things in being able to have one for so long, because it’s well cared for and in tip top condition , alomg with knowing the vehicle so well

plus talking of more modern motors see that some vehicles have electric power steering and assisted brakes , might have read it wrong but seems apart from the ABS the brakes are also assisted as u touch the brake pedal

think that was another reason I got a D3 , can lower it so can get in and out easier and indeed the air suspension is sublime in how it soaks up potholes and bumps , couldn’t get over either how quiet it is for a diesel , don’t mind admitting nicest landy ive owned so far

Yep, had the electric power steering go on our Pluriel when driving it around "Hamburger roundabout" near us. Thank god ~I was driving it and not Wifey". It suddenly got extremely heavy.
Went on the web, the suggested cure was to disconnect the batt then reconnect it.
amazingly it worked and, touch wood, still does!
Don't know about brakes.:eek::eek::eek:

you can always lubricate a door mechanism, and this is a good idea if the mechanism was the problem. I'd take the door card off to get right in there to do it.
I've had mine get stuck on my Disco 1 and in that case I had to take the LR logo off the handle and go in that way.
But do make sure the fault isn't an electrical one.
Still lube it though, can't do any harm!:):):)

awesome , what worked in the end plse, if u don’t mind me adding if the actuator or handle has been playing up would change it asap, would at least remove the lower tailgate panel whilst it’s open so then at least if it does fail again in the mean time ur be one step ahead

personally I use Lithium grease spray on the actuator components, electrical spray for the connectors
