Having read many of the helpful posts on here regarding rear diff problems I was aware of the symptoms but, I rarely drive the car as it belongs to my wife. I drove it at the weekend and heard more road noise from the rear than normal so decided to remove the propshaft completely. The noise is still there so I assume that the rear diff is faulty, am I right? I would suspect that the VCU is the culprit so will budget for their replacement later in the year. Am I OK to run the vehicle as it now stands?

Cheers,
Chris.

Rear Diff tricky if already knackered and noisy as this could be trashed. My set up was already removed before I bought but I had no noise. You need to find out how bad the condition as this will still rotate while driving unless the pinion shaft removed. Nodge will give you better advice in this regards.

It could be just the tyres making a racket. Mine drone on some road surfaces, which sounds like diff noise.
Try swapping the tyres left to right, as that's what LR suggested for noise from the rear.

Good call, I will give that a go. Meanwhile I assume that I am OK to carry on driving with no propshaft connected to the rear diff? I have removed everything from the IRD connection to the diff.
