I have recently bought a 97 disco. I needed a big 7 seater quick and luckily found and excellent one locally at a bargain price.....but I have had a number of series 3's and my heart will always be with the defender 90 and 110 so I am on the lookout for a nice older one.

Originally as I sometime carry 6 and have a BIG ( 13st ) dog which I also take around (not at the same time!) I thought I would have to have a 110 as the rear bench seats in a 90 are just not going to be suitable for my wife and kids if my mum sits in the front !.. but I saw a picture recently of some full inward facing seats fitted to a 90 (see pic).. is this quite easy and relatively cheap ?

This would mean I could look for a 90 aswell as 110's are rare as hens teeth

thanks

My Ninety came with side-facing fold-up seats (which I promptly removed and stuck on eBay!) They're simply bolted through the wheel-arches, with spreader plates on the underside. Lots of people discard them (as I did) so there's plenty around second-hand. Or if you're feeling flush, Exmoor Trim do some smarter ones.

An alternative would be forward-facing seats in the back. This is what I replaced my side-facing seats with as I wanted to be able fit child seats in the back. They're more expensive, and obviously you can only fit two - but you can fit proper inertia seat-belts, which you can't with the side-facing seats.

Hope that helps.

Ian.

Thanks for reminding me about the seat belts.. that needs to be considered

Are the forward facing seats fixed or easily removed/folded.. does it leave any room at the back of them

If you have any pics that would be great.. and of course an idea of cost !

the ones in the pic look like middle seats from the front mounted on a custom base. Not a bad idea, middle seat in the front is worthless and mega cheap on ebay..

Check the Exmorr trim forward facing seats on their website. I am waiting as they are currently testing a rear forward facing recommended for babyseats. Guy on the telephone reckoned End of March release.

As above - check out the Exmoor Trim website. I've got the standard forward-facing seats, which still fold up over the wheel arches when not in use. I'll be interested to see what the new seats look like - you can bet they won't be cheap!

My 90 CSW came with four inward facing fold up seats as standard. Took out the two rear most ones and kept the front ones. They only get used occassionaly but would not be without them. Ideal for the kids and they think its great facing different to everybody else. I'm 6 foot tall and have sat on them for short trips but would not want to go any distance purely because of leg room. Would rather sit on the floor against the bulkhead and stretch me legs out. The two I took out went on eBay and I got £50 for the pair. Dont know what the legroom would be like with the forward facing folding seats though.
