i tried to take my series 3 through furneux pelham but it is frozen. i made it about 10m but when the ice got to bumper level it holted me!

my mate ramed it in his trojen in reverse with no sucess.

any ideas how to over come this problem.

i cant give up smoking! so i pretty determind to prove that i can accomplish something.

wot about fiiting a snow blade onto my bull bars?

Assuming the ice breaks as you drive in, enter the water then stop suddenly. This will send a bow wave underneath the ice. Back up and repeat until the ice starts breaking up. Still take care, a chunk of ice could easily puncture a radiator.
10mm may be a bit ambitious.

DON@T DO IT!!! 2 weeks ago a Kirton I went through 4" of ice which then mashed both front wings, 1 headlight, front grille, radiator and intercooler! not good , even if the ice is broken you will be amazed at how much damage it can do, imagine how heavy a piece of ice 3ft square is?

You need an ARB bumper mate :D

Camped on strata florida NYE -10. had to smash our way out. Whats said above makes sense, lots or ramming followed by waved breaking up ice. Its hard to see from my pics, i have a vid, but not sure how to show it, dont have U tube :(

Just stay out of it. it can cause ontold damage to you landy. would you drive through a river of logs? Iv'e seen rads smashed, grills torn to bits. fan belts snap and brake lines broken on vehicles driven thru icy water before. I would only ever do it if it was an emergancy and there was no other route.

i made a plough but my bumper wasnt strong enough! i have spare fan belt ect just in case ply board in front of the rad. i have given up now. ill have to be happy in my quarry on my own!

In answer to the actual question asked......!

Q: How to brake through ice?

A: Dont use your brakes use your gears to the best of your abilities.:)
