Hi All,

Should be a quick one this, which way round do the front propshaft bolts go (2000 4.6)?

Rave clearly says that the heads should point towards the transfer box and away from the diff, however, the pic accompanying those words shows heads pointing away from the diff AND away from the transfer box.

The ones I've just undone (at the transfer box end) despite being loose  (well, not tight, but not wobbling!) have the head pointing at the transfer box, but not sure how I'm going to get them out as there doesn't appear to be enough room, and now they're loose I cant spin the transfer box from the road wheel.

Would love one job to be simple :)

Cheers

Marc

well, both props off. Not too bad really. The handbrake end nuts were as loose as the transfer box side :(

Sadly my circlip pliers are fecked, so will have to get some more tomorrow.

Decided that the transfer box end bolts can stay in and I'll put new nyloc nuts on them, same as the handbrake side. New nuts and bolts at the axle ends.

Always loosen the dirt away from the circlip with a wire brush tap work a punch to loosen then use your circlip pliers less strain on them ;);)

Front prop and rear prop bolts face the diff ie nuts diff side and transfer box bolts face away ie nut propshaft side ok?

Mine are the same as OP: bolt heads facing the transfer box and in the other side the bolt heads are facing the diff. But I was left with the same question, how to remove the bolts from the transfer box side because there isn't enough room for them to come out.

Remove big nut on flange comming out of transfer box remove flange change bolts do up again
Ps whatever way the propshaft spins at either end is the way the big nut diff end or transfer end tightens one is an anticlockwise thread :)

Bolts should always go into flange with nuts on prop shaft side, that way the bolt heads are trapped by flange and prevented from turning. Bolts in transfer box flange cannot be removed unless flange is undone. If you have a nut and bolt you ALWAYS tighten the nut, NEVER the bolt.
