Got a cd player to replace the radio cassette unit. But the radio cassette refuses to come out of the dash. Removed the two end caps, inserted the release pins, but it will not budge. Someone said it must have an antitheft cage installed. Anyone got any good tips to help me get it out?

if you remove the centre console you will be able to remove the anti theft cage, it sounds a bigger job than it is, remember when you fit the new one you may need a new cage, and also beware not to trap any wires behind the new unit, there is limited space behind the radio and if you have anything bigger than a fag paper behind there the radio will stick out and not lock into place ;)

Just noticed my RH channel keeps disappearing when listening to a CD but when you switch to radio the channel comes back. I will have to pull the stereo out. I hope theres no cage on this. I assume a dodgy connection between head unit and 6 stack under the seat.

Maybe a good idea to stick a cd cleaner disc in the autochanger, if it will fit. clean the laser.

Sold an autochanger not long ago, out of a Rover 800. Same unit apparently . Philips dc083 I think, Should have kept it and stuck it in the discovery.

Ask yer local hoodie - he'll ave it out in a trice!

I thought so. I will take the head unit out and check the cabling in the dash. I think CD stacks are pretty useless these days. Better with a simple CD tuner with a jack for MP3/ipod.

woo hoo! just went to local car accessory shop, bought the removal tools for £1.20 got the head unit out and found a bad connection on the multi plug from the stacker. Now working fine with all 8 speakers!

Mine is a 2001 V8 auto and the cd player (no stacker under the seat) has a LR logo on it and has 4 small little holes on the front, 2 either side. Is this how I get it out? 4 toothpicks? 4 loong nails?

I need to get it out coz its squeaking and vibrating but stops doing so if I touch it. I was tempted to break a match off in the gap between the radio and the console, but its an expensive bit of equipment and the broken off match bit would spoil the ambiance :p:p:p:p

The 'tools' I mentioned above were 2 U shaped pieces of steel wire basically you push them in and they release the retaining clips and then you should be able to pull the unit out (carefully) as youre in the outback I guess the proper tools may not be at hand so I suggest 4 nails or pins about 4" long which are small enough diameter to go in the holes. Dont force them if they wont fit! you should feel a bit of pressure against the retaining clips then pull it out.

Good luck!

Had no joy with this at all, the twu u shape pins wont release the unit and trying to remove the centre facia seems pointless too. I did have a go, but after having removed the clock, ashtray, coin holder etc etc , I realised that to completely remove it, I needed to remove the radio cassette unit to gain access to the last four screws . Defeated !

is this a question of Andydontknows?
