Hi All,

I'm reading an old edition of LRO, and it mentions making a radiator blind out of rubber sheeting for off-roading, to prevent mud going in your radiator.

Seeing as my radiator has just capputted itself, due to mud build up, i'm considering making one of these things, but i have some questions

1) How does the cars cooling respond with the grille/front of the rad covered up?

2) When would the blind work? I presume it would stop mud entering the rad from the car in fronts tyres etc, but would it be effective during muddy water wading? Maybe pushes a better bow wave or something?

3) Any downsides from fitting one? (Just for off roading, it would be removed for road use)

Thanks

Matt

Also called a snow muff - the idea is to have a central section which can be rolled up to allow air thru the rad. Drop the centre section before wading and roll it back up after. I think the loss of air flow thru rad for a short period of time is more than made up by water cooling.

Personally I think it might be difficult to see to cross a river - but who knows?

i know how to make a veneshon blind , just poke his eyes out

Or maybe it's to stop light reflecting off shiny glass surfaces when you are about to cammo it up.;):p

Thats correct, its also to break up the shape of the vehicle, from a way off those headlamps would stand out and make the vehicle obvious, as would the windscreen.
