Well I'm in the final stages of my engine conversion (had it running now at least :D) but got a couple of questions for anyone else with a Disco 200TDi fitted to their Defender.

1. Header tank - Is the Disco tank used or the old Defender one? Also, using which hose? I've tried a couple of combinations but aren't 100% happy with any of the results.

2. Air filter - This is even worse than the header tank because of space. Which filter housing fits best and how/where?

Any pics would be great too ;)

Cheers

Richard

assuming your going from TD to 200 then both the orginal header tank and filter in their original locations are fine

I couldnt fit the original air filter housing in because of the lack of space due to the washer bottle. On me mates one he changed from a n/a engine into a 200tdi he could use the air filter.

hi mate header tank i think if i remember i used the deepender 1 (then at a later date got a much earlier deepender 1 (slightly bigger), the hose cant rightly remember which 1
air filter i used the disco 1 but had a bitch of a job coupling it to the pipework
will get the phone out and take a few picys for ya in the morning (if i dont over sleep :D

there's one of patmans threads on here thats riddled with pictures showing how numerous peeps have done theirs

I used the Disco header tank on mine. Had to extend the hose a little.

Can take some pics of the hoses I used if your interested?

I used the Disco 1 header tank. I used the TD water pipe and extended the pipe into the bottom of the header with some copper pipe and jubilee clips. Cut the bottom thin hose in the middle, insert the copper pipe and clip it up. Works fine.
I used the Disco air filter housing as it's designed for the engine. I thought the TD one might restrict the 200TDi breathing a bit.
As the PAS was the one from the disco as well the resevoir bottle was bolted to the wing on the RHS of the engine (looking into the bay) thus the old TD air filter housing had to go.

Piccys here.
Basically it's a matter of getting all the pipework in place then seeing where you can bolt all the bits either by shortening or lenghthening the pipework.
It's a matter of choice and the spare parts you have lying around as well.

Thanks for all the info :)

Both header tanks seem to fit ok so I'll see which is easier to do by extending the pipes (probably depends what bits I've got lying around).

The air filter looks more difficult though as there's not much space in there! I think the TD filter will fit with some fettling though so will see how I get on with that approach.

Cheers
