Smaller new Defender on the way.

Apparently there's a smaller new Defender on the way, but not for a couple of years.

The main issue l have with my new Defender is the size. It's fine for road use and as a Commercial l wouldn't want the rear load space (in my 90) to be any smaller.

But for greenlaning and general off road use the vehicle is just too wide and a bit, well, big.

This is brought into focus by driving our new model Jimny, which is so much better in this respect.

However it looks like the new smaller model
will be electric only, l don't think there's currently an electric off road vehicle so it will be interesting to see how it performs.

I don't think an electric vehicle will work for proper Overlanding, but the regular new Defender can be used for that.

I think fifth gear Vikki butler Henderson drove an EV defender on a rough terrain course. They have been third parties version but building small seems backwards. More EV on the road seem heavier and larger models. The market is the military and utilities sector in general spares on site. Especially if the military have to send the EV back to manufacturers or third party for repair.
Maybe the next one should not be called Defender as so. Lots of other names eg Panther, Notevoque etc

Basically when you say new defender it's going to be an Evoque.

New defender should've been the new discovery.

They should've never stopped making the old defender. They put the wrong people in charge.

Now JLR is facing $3B in court action, producing a bunch of sh*t, no one can get insurance - and when they can't finance companies are collecting the cars for auctions - not even selling at auctions - video for context, .

The new land cruiser is coming to the UK market.. that would be my next car over any new JLR model for sure.

Well, l wouldn't call my new Defender a "bunch of sh#t" it's actually an awesome vehicle both on and off road.
Had no issues with it either. And it's nothing like a Discovery to drive.

I agree that Land Rover threw away their heritage when they stopped making the old Defender. They should have been building a Grenadier type vehicle.

But Land Rover like everyone else is overwhelmingly interested in how much money they make, and in that respect the new Defender has been one of the best vehicles they've ever produced.

Most new Defender buyers seem happy with what they've bought. Few venture off road so the actual ability of the vehicle is wasted. But nobody cares.

Fortunately there's always going to be plenty of old Defenders for those who want a "proper Defender"
While l love my new one, it's a one-off purchase. My next vehicle will be another 110 Puma or TD5.
