Hi all, i'm in the long process of rebuilding a 200tdi 110 Agrover conversion.
As you all know the cab is short of space and i was considering fitting an electric handbrake to give more leg room.
Does anyone have any experience of this and is there a decent electric module i can fit - i had a disco 3 for years which used to eat them, so i don't want to go down that path.
I did think about relocating the handbrake handle but that doesn't really work with my cab plans.
Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

I had to Google that, never heard of one before, bit like a Unimog then?
Is there any less room inside than a normal truck cab?
 
No it's a standard truck cab, but i'd like to maximise space where possible.
Also i'm not as slim or nimble as i was when we were building them - mid to late 1980's.

Lots of cars have electric brake calipers for the handbrake side, seem very reliable compared o the d3/4/rr set ups.

Surely you have answered your own question.... they are loads of trouble. Even when a LARGE motor maker designs and builds them. A homebrew offering could well be more trouble than worth. Also with such a rare vehicle, wouldn't originality count more so for value reasons?

If you really wanted to locate the handbrake, people have used the Disco 1/RRC handbrake lever mounted on top of the seatbox next to the drivers seat. But it would depend if you have a middle seat or not or any sort of cubby box in the way.

I understand the reason to keep it original and i am keeping all of the original parts but i also want to make my personal use of it easier.
Things have changed over the years and some parts have worn out therefore some things do need replacing and upgrading, shock absorbers and bushes for example.

AGRover For Sale

Presumably it still has a transmission brake.
How about one of them disc conversions and a caliper with a motor on the back of it.
Need some brackets made up for it though.
Now I come to think of it I pretty sure I read somewhere that the electric Defender conversions were being fitted with electric handbrake conversions on the rear axle.

I don't think the handbrake lever actually takes up a lot of room where your legs and feet will go
No really had a problem with them in defenders I have driven.
Electric handbrakes have been pretty common on cars in Canada and the US for a long time, because they work well in conjunction with autobox, which has a Park setting on the shifter.
Personally, I don't like them much, but maybe that is just me.

Looks like you have plenty of room to do something like this?

All you need is the lever. It'll work with the standard cable.
 
It's a bit of a reach down to the standard handbrake but you soon get used to it though.

JE Engineering do an electric handbrake conversion which I think they will sell you as a kit of parts. Uses a linear actuator to pull on the existing cable. Personally I don't like them, especially with a manual.
